I do not use Outlook or Outlook Express as my mail client but emClient since I find it much faster and better to use.

Please add a general mail output option so we can use any mail client we want and use the mail output option within Snagit.

Have you tried using  the "Email" in Share ?

For me it opens Thunderbird which is my email client of choice.

When I click that. It ALWAYS wants to setup Outlook as a mail application. It completely ignores that I have emClient setup as my standard mailing application :-(

I have a capture set to go to the clip board only then just bring up the email and paste it where I want it. which is usually inline and not as an attachment

Hi there!

I'm curious, if you open up your Default Programs function in the Windows Control Panel, then click on Set Associations and scroll all the way down to the Protocol section and select "MAILTO", what application is listed?

See:

Hello Bernd;

What happens if you click on an email address link in a browser window? Can you please use Snagit to record that process then upload it to a site like Screencast and post the link here?

Hi Bernd;

Did you have a different default while Snagit was installed? I wonder if the issue is related to the output retaining some setting. Have you tried reinstalling Snagit?

Nope. Eversince the computer was setup I was using emClient as Standard Mail. Never even setup Outlook at all. Reinstall of Snagit is next on my list.

I wonder where that value would be stored? I checked the registry and didn't find any obvious locations nor did an internal text search for "email" in the program folder reveal anything
It SOUNDS like a corrupt configuration entry somewhere. Hi might just change that MAILTO to something else then change it back before reinstalling

It might be worth opening a ticket.

Change it to your default email client (Thunderbird?)

I fixed it! I went back into the control panel - this time I checked emClient and the settings. I then saw that MAPI was set to Outlook, switched it to emClient an voilà - now it works! Thanks for all the help and the push in the right direction!

Hi Bernd,

That's fantastic! Glad you were able to get it up and running again. I appreciate you sharing the steps you took to fix it, in case someone else runs into this same behavior. If it's no issue to you, I am going to change this thread from "Idea" to "Problem"

Thanks!
