Please add animated GIF creation to Snagit

It'd be extremely useful to us if you added an option to export a group of selected images in the editor as an animated gif.

Example: I press control (or shift) to highlight multiple thumbnails/captures in the Library then save as ... "animated gif".

Of course adding in the usual frame delay (etc.) animated gif options.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Capture GIF images like video captures.

Snagit for our company (for the past 20 years) has been an awesome tool for taking screenshots. When it comes to video... It's a different story. Saving a large video on our computers to then upload them onto our network and then maybe to upload them one of our bug tracking sites; just takes too long. The social networking support (youtube, vimeo) is great but again requires individuals to be apart of those networks.

I suggest a new feature for Snagit. Video captures as GIFs! This is huge and has become more and more popular throughout the internet.

Is one of the most well known screen capture tool. It provides a super easy interface for capturing aspects of a screen.

I use iDealshare VideoGo to convert video to GIF or convert GIF to other video formats.
Here is a sample on how to use it at http://www.idealshare.net/video-converter/mp4-to-gif-converter-mac-windows.html

I thank you both for sharing this idea with us! We like animated gifs around here - I'd like to see this in Snagit too :)

I'd love it if people would continue to +1 or add their thoughts :)

It looks like the Chrome version of Snagit has this. Any reason the feature hasn't been made available in the desktop versions?

It would be great if the product were able to save short animations as animated gifs. Right now I use the services of http://imgflip.com to convert an mp4 to an animated gif like the one I created here: http://stackoverflow.com/a/23540801/736079

It's a very light weight way to embed a tutorial in Wiki's, blogs and sites like Stack Overflow that don't support Youtube embedding.

Hi,
Thank you for your suggestions. I just wanted to let you know we read these requests that come in!

Also, we have animated Gif output in our Snagit for Chrome app. This might help you get the look you need:
http://blogs.techsmith.com/news-events/snagit-for-chrome-gif-maker/

You can find that app in the Chrome Web Store. It is also a tw-part installation process.
You can find both parts here:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/snagit

I hope this helps!

This is useless for anyone that doesn't use Chrome, or wants to record anything outside of it.

This post should be removed as the Chrome extension has been discontinued.

I would like the ability to create animated GIFs from  a series of screen shots.  I presently have an application that draws 3 dimensional graphs.  My application, however solves n-dimensional problems and it would be nice to show evolutionary surfaces (like waves on the ocean all created mathematically).  I could use Camtasia, but delivered directly from Snagit would be nice.  Almost like time lapsed photography.

Would very much like this. Animated GIFS are a great way to share steps without the overhead of the recipient having to play a video. Hope this makes it to the Mac App (and all the others).

TechSmith: Please add exporting to animated GIFs to SnagIt for Mac!!  Many of us don't want to have to download and use the Google Chrome extensions when we already have SnagIt Mac on our laptops.  The fewer add-ons, the better.  Given the popularity of animated GIFs, this would seem like an obvious and necessary enhancement for SnagIt Mac.  Please do make it happen!  Thanks.

I'll add my vote for this feature too!  In reading the comments, I see that this is apparently available on Chrome on a Mac...but I can't seem to find it.

I will cast my vote: This needs to be built into the Windows and Mac versions of the program directly without needing a Chrome extension. Thank you! Fantastic product. This would make it even better.

Why isn't this in Snag-It yet? People have been asking for 1.5 years, it's already in your other applications and is in the Chrome plug-in. Makes a lot of sense for sending a series of screenshots or converting a simple video into a GIF to email as instructions.

+1 on this.

I'm a little surprised that this isn't in Snag-it yet, too.  Animated GIFs are everywhere and it seems like a really clear use case for Snag-it.  I wanted to capture a user error and post it to GitHub as an animated GIF, but it looks like I'll need to get an MP4 to GIF converter or do it online.

This feature has been requested for over 3 years and available on other products from techsmith. It s sad to see this must to have feature ignored by techsmith in such a useful tool.

If anyone is looking for a good free app I recommend Adapter by MicroPlant. Good for all sorts of media conversions. I do wish the ability to create a gif was native to Snagit tho.

Doesn't exist in SnagIt as far as I'm aware. But does exist in SnagIt's big sister Camtasia.
