Camtasia for windows already supports exporting to animated gif, which is great for answering, "How do I do X" style questions in forums where you can only embed images, such as the Stack Exchange network. For instance, one might ask, "How do I turn off bluetooth on my macbook pro?" and while I can give a list of steps, being able to quickly capture a short video showing them how to do it, then exporting it as gif and uploading it to the site is significantly better.

While I understand you're still developing some of the features on Camtasia Mac, I would like to see a greater degree of similarity in capabilities between the two.

Dear Camtasia Team,

I am adding my support for this feature (Camtasia and/or Snagit, preferably both) - ability to export a short video as a .gif  My use case is similar to some already outlined - namely, I need to embed an illustrative thing in my training materials, and a video is too heavy.  A quick .gif (the one I'm right now is 5 -6 seconds) is much preferred.

Thanks, db

Hi all,

Thank you for providing feedback and explaining why animated GIF export is important to you. I'm happy to announce that we released Camtasia for Mac 2.9 today, which includes the ability to do that!

To export to animated GIF:
  1. Go to Share > Advanced Export
  2. Select Export to Animated GIF from the file format dropdown
  3. Click Export

Hope this helps!

Thank you for including this but there's no option for looping. In other words, I don't want my gif to loop more than once. Any news on upcoming update with this included?

Wonderful! thanks -- I didn't know I'd need this option, but once I was in a situation that needed it, it was great to see it built in!
