I have tried every way I can think to undo a single step when drawing a polygon. If you make a misstep there appears to be no choice but to start over which is a PITA in a complex shape.
So this is by way of an idea or a question. How? If not, can we add that in please? To be clear, I just want to undo the last step I made.
Also, this is a case where snap to grid or guidelines would be REALLY helpful if you are trying to draw a polygon that has sides at right angles to each other and to the screenshot.
Finally, a solution for people who wanted to be able to do irregular shaped highlighting. Use the polygon tool, set the colour to say yellow, and dial down the opacity. Works a treat

I'd also add a further refinement. When you complete the shape by returning to the start point, it would be nice for a proximity indicator to appear when you are in the zone where double clicking will connect you. At the moment it's a little unclear, and you can end up drawing an unwanted segment. Changing the cursor shape would suffice.
