Poor Audio Quality with "Record System Audio" feature

I need to record my computer's audio (not the microphone), but it sounds awful. Like a low quality mp3 with 96k bit rate, or something of the kind.

I ́m testing Camtasia as a screen capture software to create tutorials.
i.e. how to use Adobe Audition.

How can I improve audio quality?

I know I can import the audio to Camtasia, but this is not an option, because the video I ́m capturing is a live demonstration of audio software. I cannot recreate this audio to import it later, it would be waaaaay too painstakingly slow.

I tested Screenflow on a friend ́s mac, and the captured audio sounds pristine in comparison to Camtasia's distorted audio. And this is not my hardware, because other audio files imported to camtasia sound just fine after exporting the video. Imported mp3s at 320kpbs sound perfect.

Is there a configuration or driver I can use to improve the quality of RECORDED SYSTEM AUDIO? Im guessing this laptop doesnt have the best audio card, but I can ́t understand....  why music and video playback sound just fine, and Camtasia captured audio sounds distorted and "low quality"?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello - Most computers do a decent job of playback, recording is a true test. Laptops (unless equipped specifically with a high quality audio section or external audio interface box) are typically not great at recording on their own. try to locate the specs for your laptop to see what it's actually capable of, settings wise. If not using the mic (whew!) then you are taking a line in feed from mixer or ?

Plan B: Bring a digital audio recorder (ZOOM H2, etc. using MP3 or WAV) to the demonstration and place it close to the action. Then import that audio on a separate Camtasia track. It doesn't take long to sync it.

FWIW - I produce product clips and the audio is scripted and recorded outside and brought in every single time.
