Possible compatibility issue between C2018 and NVidia GeForce 940MX (Notebook) card

I've just raised this as a support ticket, but just in case anyone else has the same card and encounters the same problem I'll post it here too. This is a cut down version of what was sent to Support:
  • The canvas is just a hole in the application through which I can see whatever application is behind Camtasia;
  • Nothing plays in the canvas (obviously);
  • No audio plays in the editor; but
  • The project can be rendered as an .mp4 correctly.
I rebooted after installation and upgraded the drivers for the card to the latest (398.11) ones, and rebooted again. The problem was the same.
The only thing that fixed it was going to Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced and setting Hardware Acceleration to "Use Software Mode Only" and restarting Camtasia.

There's actually a support article on this issue. And the solution is to disable Your graphics card.
