Powerpoint needs to be installed locally for the add-ins to work.

There do not work with the online/cloud version.

There is an 'Add-ins' tab in Power Point. You will find the CS buttons there. Incidentally, you can screen capture PP slides (with SnagIt) and insert them into CS.

Are they in Office 365 ?

I use the 2016 standalone version of office.

I didn't think they were available in the cloud/subscription  version.

Office 365 and Office Online are not the same thing. The latter is a cut-down (if one is a power user, one might better say "crippled") version which competes in the same space as Google Docs / Sheets etc.

Office 365 is installed on your machine the same way the retail package is. The only differences between Office 365 and the retail package are:
- With the former you pay an annual subscription and get (at present) licences for 5 family members;
- With the latter you get a perpetual licence for a single user;
- With the former you get continuous updates, some of which break Office functionality spectacularly, while;
- With the latter you get security and bug patches only and don't get epic fails like AutoSave to One Drive as part of the product's "improvements".

I use the Camtasia add-in in Office 365 PowerPoint without any problem. If I remember correctly though I did have to manually add the add-in on one occasion which is not done through the Add-Ins tab (which relates only to existing add-ins) but rather through File -> Options -> Add-ins -> (At the bottom) Manage COM add-ins. If the Camtasia add-in isn't on the list you should find it in C:\Program Files\Techsmith\Camtasia2018\Win32\CamtasiaOfficeAddIn.dll.

As Mal says above, Office 365 can be installed on your local computer. I have Windows 10, Office 365 installed on my machine. The addin I found in the folder Mal lists above is "not a valid office addin", according to the message when I try to install it manually from Powerpoint.
So just wondering if we can get some clarity on this - does it not work with the 365 version period. even if installed on my computer?
Saying that I should "install a local version" is a bit annoying - is this saying I should go out and buy a separate powerpoint license?
If it is not a current functionality - understood. I would really love to use this, but realise that if it is not there, it is not there....

Are you sure that you are trying to add it as a COM add-in, and not a PowerPoint add-in? Because if you try to add a COM add-in like Camtasia's as a PowerPoint add-in (which is essentially just a hidden presentation with VBA code in it), you WILL get an error that it's not a valid add-in.

Yes... while I did give both a try, I was focused on the "COM add-ins". I also tried doing it through Control Panel, per the instructions provided in another post...

I too have Office 365 installed locally. The Add-in is installed and enabled. I tell it to start recording the presentation and the show starts, but at the end I do not get an option to name the recording.

So no recording actually happened.

Thanks,
Jack
