pre-purchase questions

I have been evaluating video editing software for a couple of days, and have a few pre-purchase questions:

1) The "extend frame" command seems like a suboptimal way to achieve a freeze-frame effect because the delay is not easily reversible or editable. I have gotten around this by splitting a short section from the middle of my video and then stretching this section so it goes really slow. Can someone tell me if there is a better way to achieve a freeze-frame of editable duration?

2) One of my favorite features of Camtasia is the "annotations". Is it possible to add new arrow styles to the "sketch motion" palette? What I really want to do is to be able to draw on top of my video, but I gather from other forum posts that this capability does not exist, and the ability to create new annotation styles would be a good alternative.

3) Following up on the second question, is it possible to create a hand-drawn overlay without simply creating the drawing elsewhere and importing it.

Aside for the inability to re-order the tracks, and the aforementioned un-editability of freeze-frame effects, Camtasia is the most intuitive and versatile of the programs I have tried (In fact I was able to learn other software more easily after using Camtasia) Thanks!

Hi there

WRT freezing a frame, you may find it simpler to export the frame you wan to freeze. This will create a static image that you can then insert on a track above (or in front of) the video track. At that point you are free to make the duration as long or as short as you like.

WRT the hand drawn overlay, that one will be tough. Although, one way you might achieve it would be to create a video output of your recording, then play it back and record the playback. Just use the annotation and drawing tools that are available in the Camtasia recorder to do the drawing you want. Then save that recording and insert it back into your project.

Here are some screens where you configure the recorder as well as what you should see during the recording process:

Thanks! I will attempt this method of creating drawing overlays, and see how it goes.

Thanks! I did not see the stitch/unstitch command. This was one of the main issues keeping me from making the purchase.
