Preview recording before saving

It would be nice to have the ability to preview your voice recording before saving to allow you a chance to see if its worthwhile or not before it gets added to Media Bin. If recording needs to be re-recorded, its a hassle to delete and then re-record because I use a specific naming convention which means I have to delete the source file after I remove it from media bin as you cannot rename actively used filenames.

I totally agree with that request.

Also, in the same context, it would be nice to have a "pause" feature whereas if I am turning a page for a script or have another short pause, I don't have to start a new recording. This also allows my voice composition to remain virtually the same as there is less effort thus my tone remaining similar versus stop, saving and other activities that can detract from that "moment" your voice is in.

In the mean time . . start with a 3-5 second recording, just to test your system.

I also tend to record short takes and if my mouth gets in the way, clap (show up on the sound track) for a do over, then I do over.

By default [F9] is the pause button, I use a programmable KB, so I can use G16 without looking. There are also foot pedals (1, 2, or 3) very cheap if looking at the keyboard to press a key is inconvenient.

Tried F9 but didn't seem to work and can't locate it under Preferences > Shortcuts. Where would I configure this option from?

" Preferences > Shortcuts " Yeh, gotta love all the places they can hide user settings. I think all of the TS coders skipped "good techniques" classes in coding school.

So sorry! I see why I was confused and its my fault! :) I was referring to the Camtasia Editor, not Recorder.  (Sorry I am still fairly new to this program!) - Doesnt seem to be possible post recording the project to pause or preview before saving but after hitting Start Voice Recording?

Greg - you said above

"Also, in the same context, it would be nice to have a "pause" feature whereas
if I am turning a page for a script or have another short pause, I don't have to
start a new recording."

I thought my . . . "In the "rec" window, Tools, Shortcuts." did that?

Now I'm confused. At exactly what point in editor -to- render process, do you want to pause?

After I create a recording and then want to edit it.  The feature above (you provided) seems to be only pre recording, unless I am mistaken and if so, please explain. But F9 does not appear to pause recordings for me during production (prior to rendering).

OK, now I get it. So you want to pause while playing your tracks? It appears the play/pause button just below the preview area is the only way to pause. I've always thought of requiring mouse motion and click as awkward, especially when we own keyboards with "media controls" that don't work in Camtasia!

If you're going to ask for a feature request, please ask for a short-cut key(s) and normal KB media controls be activated.

to be clear, you cannot "pause" a Voice Narration recording; best to record short narration snippets that are stitched together

if using Camtasia 2020, you can do a voice-only recording using its Recorder; and, if you set Recorder to preview that capture before saving, you can listen/decide before saving

what you can't do is watch the timeline play, in sync, while doing so

you can pause/unpause using F9

You used to be able to review and even save from the recording application. I'm not sure why they got rid of that, it's a total PITA. I used to do quick recordings and save from that without having to open resource hogging editor. Now I have it open most of the time when I'm doing what I do, and I really dislike it.

you still can in Camtasia 2020

in Recorder's tools/options/program menu, be sure to uncheck "hide preview window after recording is stopped"

also, for do this with my recording ... select save
