I am using Snagit version 10.0.1 on a Windows System 7
Snagit becomes my default printer whenever I reboot my system even after I change the default printer to another one.
How can I stop this behaviour ?

Thanks.

I have the exact same problem. It's annoying having to keep resetting my default printer. I love my Snagit, had my license for years. What is the solution?

No solution yet. I removed the Snagit printer but the problem move to another printer (in this case a label printer). This tells me the problem is with Windows not Snagit.

Interesting find, I assume you are on a network right? I recall seeing a similar problem years ago where when logging into the network, it would change my default printer.

I assumed it was a network group policy setting and at that time the only solution I could find was to write a little script to change my printer back.

If you are on a network, let me know and I can dig up that script.

Thanks Adam.
Yes I am on a network and actually the printer I want to use be default is on the network. I presume this is the root of the problem.

I will have to add a little script to check the default printer and reset it if not correct.

I could use your script if you find it.

I couldn't find the script I had, it was probably a few PCs ago, but here is a link that should help you:

This is the old way to do it, which should still work on Win7 :

I have found the answer to this problem. It is nothing to do with SnagIt. Whew!

It was some problem (no idea what) with my default printer driver.

We have a shared HP laser printer which is our network default printer for all office operations, it is sitting on another machine, everyone has it set as their default printer. My machine which uses this printer as default is the only one having the problem with the default printer flicking to SnagIt after every reboot. I removed the SnagIt printer from my devices & printers but after that on the reboot I found the default printer was set at a different printer again. Once again it had flicked off the HP laser but now it was onto the next random printer!

This gave me the clue that it was nothing to do with SnagIt and most likely a problem with my HP printer driver - even though it's been working fine for the last coupla years! So I deleted the HP laser printer off my machine, rebooted, and reattached it from the network. next reboot: same problem, no longer the default.

Solution

The final solution is to remove the printer from your own machine, go to the server machine and remove the printer from there (I rebooted everything just to be sure) then reattach the printer on the server machine, then go back to my own machine and re attach the printer. On reboot: it stays as default! All fixed!

I have since found online that I'm not the only one that this solution works for this problem.

Hope this helps

Snagit 11 on Windows 7 64 bits keeps stealing default printer status. Our default printer is X, every time we run Snagit for a routine screen capture operation with no printing requirement in the profile, Snagit sets itself as the default print for Windows. How can we prevent this from happening?
