Printing to Snagit 11

I frequently download a PDF file from a web site. the download opens the adobe reader. From there I would like to send that file to Snagit. Clicking on Print brings up my available printers, one being Snagit 11. Selecting that it briefly shows a print status. However the document does not make it to Snagit. Is this type of print to Snagit not possible? Tks

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the great question. Yes, this type of document should be able to be printed to Snagit. I have been working with the team to investigate what might be happening, and one thing we would like you to try is making sure your Adobe Reader is up to date with their latest version.

Also, does the PDF you are trying to capture have a large number of pages? Snagit tends to have performance issues when trying to print large PDFs.

Thanks again,

Jason

I have confirmed, adobe X is up-to-date. All types of files, not only PDFs, are not printing to Snagit. The most recent was an MS word docx, 25.4 KB. No error given, just says error-printing.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for checking on the Adobe Reader version for us. Yeah, that is terrible if all printing is failing to Snagit. I would like you to go ahead and open a support ticket with our technical support team here: http://techsmith.custhelp.com/app/ask

They will be best suited to troubleshoot a more serious issue like this one, and the back and forth communication needed will be more efficient with our support specialists.

Thanks for your patience on this issue, we apologize for these problems.

I have also found I cannot print to Snagit from Adobe Reader XI (latest update) since updating to 11.4; However I can print from Word and other applications, so my issue may be Adobe-related?

Hello Dave,

We have confirmed that printing to the Snagit printer isn't working with the latest Adobe Reader.  From what we can tell so far, it appears that there are new security mechanisms within Reader that can cause printing to Snagit to not work.

Here is a workaround that we have found that allows printing to the Snagit printer but it does involve turning off one of the new security mechanisms called "Protected Mode" so please exercise caution.

Changes within Adobe Reader
http://screencast.com/t/E2VardGV

1. Within Adobe Reader, Select the Edit Menu, Then Preferences, then "Security (Enhanced)"
2. Turn off/disable "Enable Protected Mode at startup"
3. Select "Add Folder Path" in "Privileged Locations" and type in : c:\programdata\techsmith\snagit 11
4. Restart Adobe PDF Reader
5. If it still isn't working you may need to clear the print queue of the Snagit printer because errors on previous print jobs may be keeping things from printing

Please let us know if this doesn't work for you.

Thanks,

This did not work for me. I am still not able to print anything to my snagit printer. I had been able to before, but I recently got a new computer and all of my programs were reinstalled. Ever since then, I haven't been able to print to snagit from Acrobat Professional, Microsoft Word, or Adobe InDesign.

Yeah, your work-around works! I was stumped till I found this post. I disabled Protected Mode in Adobe Reader XI and can now "print" to SnagIt.

Suggestion: Remember to turn Protected Mode back on after printing. It's such a Wild West out there, I don't want any infected files sneaking in.

This doesn't appear to work for SnagIT 10, although directed here from another post.  Very annoying!
