Hello,
I use a Zoom H2 for a lot of things but narration is not one of them if I can help it. (during travel it is sometimes necessary over using the laptop mic) Do you perhaps have the H4n set to expect a line input to record from INSTEAD of the internal microphones?

When you make a recording and attempt to play it back, do the meters move to indicate something is recorded? If it did, that would indicate a signal routing issue instead.

This is probably best answered by Zoom support or a Google search like this: https://www.google.com/#q=Zoom+H4n+no+sound+recorded

The Zoom recorders are great for many applications, thinking that you probably don't want to pick up the "room" sound (reflections and ambient sounds) and a direct mic to PC is best? Then again your situation may require using the Zoom for all I know.

Can we clarify a wee bit?

Based on what I'm seeing, I'm guessing it's possible that these recorders are somehow capable of acting as a microphone and passing the signal on to Camtasia? I know these are typically stand alone recorders. So I might expect that the "typical" way to use them would be to record onto a media card, then insert the card into the computer and extract the recorded file for use in Camtasia.

Cheers... Rick :)
