Problems with Excel 2016 dialogs in SnagIt 2020

In older versions of Snag-It, I can set my capture preference hotkey to Ctrl+A, have one-click running, then open a chart in Excel 2016, click on the chart, then click on the funnel to get a "Select Data" dialog.  I can then press Ctrl+A and select the region to copy with the cross-hairs and the dialog(s) will not disappear before the image is taken.  In 2020 I cannot do that.  The dialog disappears and the chart is no longer selected.  It seems that, no matter what my hotkeys and preferences are set to, I cannot get an image of the Excel Chart Select Data dialog.  The forums are a list of issues from Snag-It past and I'm tired of searching for an answer after half of a day.  There's virtually nothing about SnagIt 2020.  I have had the "override other hotkeys" setting on and off.  I've tried clipboard, Editor, and every hotkey combination I can think of.  (And, no, I am specifically prohibited from creating a video tutorial.)  Can someone help me figure out what to do?  Thank you!

Have you tried creating a Custom Preset?

I just did, these were the settings I happened to use. Including Ctrl + A for my keyboard shortcut.

I had no problem launching a charts Select Dialog. Hitting the shortcut and capturing it.

I'm running Office 2016.
I'm not a regular user of Excel. So I hope I understood the problem?

Regards,Joe

Hi Joe!  Yes, I have.  And several others.  But you're in the right area.  I can capture that dialog as well.

I'm trying to capture the row/column selector dialog specifically.  It appears before the one you're showing in your second image when you navigate through the funnel icon on the chart.

At work, where we all use SnagIt 12 every day, I was able to do what I needed.  CTRL conflicts with Excel even in 12.  At work, I have a Windows 7 machine and a Windows 10 virtual environment.  SnagIt 12 is running on the Windows 7 copy.  Here's an image of the dialog I'm talking about:

After messing around with the hotkeys, I found the combination of Alt+anything works in SnagIt 12.  I can't be absolutely sure that I tried a strictly ALT+ combination last night on the Capture.

I ran most of my attempts with the "override" setting checked because CTRL+Anything caused the dialog to change or disappear in Excel.  I haven't seen the override work yet, but I haven't concentrated on testing it.  I do know a solely SHIFT+ combination would do nothing at all which seems very suspect.

I might have to uninstall and re-install and make sure no previous version of SnagIt was on this particular laptop at home.

I'm going to fool with it again when I get home tonight.

I'm pondering this thread and it tickles my brain to ask if this is possibly more of a Windows thing than SnagIt.

Ctrl+A is the global Windows keyboard shortcut used to Select All. Windows 7 is a different beast than Windows 10. So maybe it's possible that a change in Windows versions changes this behavior?

Are you able to install the new SnagIt on Windows 7 and test to see?

Have you tried a timed capture?
You can delay capture for 1 to 60 seconds.
Normally,  this should give you ample time to open hidden windows. If you can keep the desired window open until time runs out and the capture is triggered.
That should probably do it.

Hi Rick!  When I use Ctrl+A the dialog disappears when I hit Ctrl.  Sometimes I don't even get to hit A.  But the Ctrl+A with the override checked should allow SnagIt to use Ctrl+A temporarily as I understand that setting.

That's a good test, though.  I'll have to see if our network admin install a private license on a government box for the purposes of testing.  Otherwise, I'll have to scrounge up a Windows 7 box at home.

Joe, I did.  One at 2 and one at 5 seconds but I can't remember what preferences I had set.  I'll try it again tonight with your presets from your top image.

Got the capture in 2020 on Windows 10.  I didn't realize the "Print Screen" under the button was a hot-key selector.  I wonder why they didn't put it in the Hotkeys tab along with the others, too.  Joe, you had the answer all the time.  Thank you!   Rick, I'll download the trial for 2020 on a Windows 7 box and see what happens...
