Project file not opening

So I worked over 10 hours on a video that simply won't' open anymore for some reason. It gives me this error message "Project file cannot be opened. Make sure the selected file is a valid .tscproj .comproj file". I tried looking up solutions, and the first step people have told me is "Open notepad with the file" and nothing is showing on the notepad!

that generic error often indicates a corruption to the project file [tscproj, or camproj]

what version of Camtasia are you using?

regarding looking at the project file, suggest you use free Notepad++; you should be able to right click on the project file, and select "edit in Notepad++", to see the contents

if you use regular Notepad, you might have to change the file extension to .txt [make a backup copy of the project file first]

regardless, it might be impossible to chase down the corruption, especially if the project file is large and complex [lots of edits]; even a single displaced comma in the project file can cause the error/issue

did you make any backup copies of the project file as you went through your editing steps?

suggest you contact free tech support; perhaps they can assist?

"chase down the corruption" ... its literally TechSmith's inability to create a saved file.

it's not a valid project file; per Notepad++, it's populated with null characters

it's only resemblance to a Camtasia project file is the file name's extension
