Random thumbnails using Camtasia 2018.0.7

I selected a start thumbnail in Custom production>Smart player options>Controller tab. When I save the mp4 to my hard drive, I see a different thumbnail from the one I specified. When I save to google drive I see yet another thumbnail.

Is there any way to make the thumbnail consistently display the one I specified?

I've searched existing posts and can't seem to find the answer. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can offer!

Hi Joanna;

Are you referring to the specific thumbnail that you see when looking at the MP4 in Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer), or are you referring to the Smart Player thumbnail (via the HTML doc we produce)?

The Win Explorer thumbnail shows one thing, the Smart Player thumbnail (is that the one I am able to specify in the Controller tab?) another, and Google Drive a third.

Hi Joanna;

At this time it is not possible to assign the thumbnail for Windows Explorer and with regard to Google Drive, we are not able to designate that image (though Google may come up with a way to do so) as the videos are all transcoded on their back-end (which is, if I understand correctly, similar to YouTube's back-end).

Helpful information, thank you. Am I to conclude that unless I upload the MP4 to a service such as brightcove that allows me to pick the thumbnail, I am at the mercy of whatever image Camtasia has randomly selected?

Hi Joanna;

If you are viewing just the MP4 in Windows Explorer then yes. We may add in a feature in a future update that allows you to change the Windows Explorer thumbnail (if possible with Windows), however there are unfortunately no promises on that end.

The thumbnail you specify in production is used for when you view the video via the smartplayer (the .html file)

If you are looking at the stand alone mp4 file in explorer, Windows usually show the first frame of your video.

In Google it picks a random thumbnail as Robert stated. Like Youtube does.
 With in Youtube you can specify your thumbnail. But you do that in Youtube.
