It won't stay open. I recently emptied the entire contents of the tray.

Ever since, it won't stay open. I open it and grab a tool, it closes.
Open it and select an image, it closes.Open it and add an annotation, closes.Open it and click anything at all, properties panel, menu items,etc.Closes.

I beat my head on that too. Look on the bottom right of the editor and click the recent icon

When that happened to me I just took a few captures and left them there then it stayed open.

Not sure what the magic formula is LOL!

You could make sure your Recents tray is "pinned" too:

This is also a context menu item in the tray itself.

For starters, I tried a repair install and it did not correct the problem. Then, I did a complete reinstall without doing anything to the registry. Just a standard reinstall saving my files.

That corrected the problem. I had also opened a ticket with tech support prior to performing these actions. TechSmith has been fully updated as to where this stands.

Also, I appreciate all the advice and these comments.

For one, this one’s for Rick Grunwald. I use the Recent tab all the time. So I’m fully aware of its functionality. Quite often when I’m taking a screenshot of SnagIt itself. To show others something. I will close the recent captures tray to unclutter the screenshot. I always use the tab as I am not a big fan of keyboard shortcuts. I use far too many programs to try to memorize all the keyboard shortcuts.

And Jason, since the reinstall I’ve emptied the recent captures tray and it’s remained open. Regardless of there being no images in it whatsoever.

And David Howell, I don’t know if pin recent captures is a setting by default? But I never changed that setting. And it’s currently set to pin recent captures at this time.

Anyway, all seems to be well and good for now. But since Jason had an issue when nothing was in the tray. Perhaps something is still amiss?

Regards, Joe

I use the recents all the time too but have had it disappear and played hell figuring it out (not settings I normally use)
For anyone else having this sort of issue one thing you can immediately do is UNCHECK all the settings for the capture tray (or anything else that is acting screwy) Close the program, restart the program and add all the checkmarks back in.
That is not specific to snagit. Sometimes the settings get scrambled and on occasion, that will fix it

Well if that's happening to you its a BUG.Not normal or expected behaviour. It's never happened to me in all the years I've used SnagIt. So I appreciate where you're coming from. If it happens to me again, Ill see if the settings changes themselves. At this point I'm skeptical as it happened immediately after emptying the tray.

I suggest you open a ticket with support as well.Let them see your error files so they can look for the problem.

> pin recent captures is a setting by default?

Yes, it is on by default. You'd have to explicitly change that to make it unpinned.
It was good of you to make support aware so it can be looked at more closely. I have not seen this happen either, FWIW.
