I want to record only webcam, but not the screen. I can't find anyway to do this in Camtasia 9. Apparently, it was possible in older versions, but doesn't seem to be possible in Camtasia 9. Any help?

in CS8 and earlier versions, there was "Record Camera"

this is not available in CS9

to get a web can recording, make a capture using Recorder with camera "on"

with that capture on timeline, delete the screen clip and you'll just have a web camera recording

I'll add a couple of steps
1. Record video.
2 After you stop it and Camtasia puts it on the time line, lock the video track
3. Right click and delete the screen track; Place your cursor on the track identifier (Track       1 Track 2, etc) ; right click remove track
4. Unlock the video cam.
5. On the canvas, expand your video

That last step is the crucial part that may have people stumped.

When I do step 5, Camtasia locks up and stops responding.  Has anyone else noted that or have a solution?

I'm assuming Carolyn's comment meant to suggest you contact the TechSmith support folks.

This was driving me crazy, as I primarily use it to record from an Epiphan capture device that shows up as a webcam. I found that Snagit works great for this purpose of wanting to record only the webcam and blogged about it here:

I have Camtasia 9 and can record using just my web camera (Logitech).  Have the camera set up and use its software to verify it is active.  See below picture.

P.S. the first time I tried the camera, Camtasia used the camera's audio but not video. I closed the Logitech software and Camtasia recognized it.

I want to record just video and audio too. With 8.6 I was using the Logitech webcam software but that doesn't work in win 10 either. Can anyone recommend a good web cam recorder I can use with Camtasia 9 (other than the built-in win 10 cam app)?

I suggest not even looking for an alternative , just  record with Camtasia 8 when you need it for webcam recordings.

The .trec recordings captured using Cam 8 are no different than the ones Cam 9 captures.
At least, none that I'm aware of. Then edit them in Cam 9.
Unless there's some other reason that makes this an unmanageable arrangement. That's what I would do.
