Record Window

In Camtasia 7 when the red record button was hit and you completed a recording. The record window and button would return to the screen ready for a next recording to be made.

How is it progress in Camtasia 9 where the record window has to be selected again for every individual recording. The best I can achieve is a short cut on my bottom bar and after every recording I have to hit the Windows key to raise my hidden task bar so I can select the record window again.

Its a crazy situation and I can't be the only one who thinks so. The panel needs a preference to automatically leave the screen while recording, but returns when the recording is complete. Just as Camtasia 7 did. Or make the F9 and F10 keys work even when the record window is not visible

I have paid over $200 and recording has become more difficult. Is that progress?

In the recorders tool bar under options.

These are the settings I use.

Every time I complete a recording. The recorder is on my desktop ready to go.Is that what your referring to?

The settings that you've highlighted don't have anything to do with this.  Look above there, at "Do this with my recording". You, like I, have this set to "Save". When you do that it will prompt you for the save location for the clip, at the cost of not adding it automatically to the media bin of the current project. (I'm sure that in some parallel universe, somewhere, someone considers making that an either/or option to have been a sensible design choice. But adding the clips takes me only a few mouse clicks which is less effort than some of the more inspired features in C9 cost me.)

However that option DOES leave the recorder up and ready to record the next clip.

THAT DOES NOT HAPPEN if you have left "Do this with my recording" with the default setting of "Auto" or have it set to "Add To Media Bin".  In Auto the file will be automatically added to your media bin and then when you return to the desktop... the recorder will be nowhere to be seen. You need to go back to C9 Studio and hit the record button again. This is different to the C8 behaviour. As Beckhamdigital said, this is progress?

I can either waste time importing the videos into the project later, or I can waste time having to launch the Recorder from the studio after each and every clip. I chose the former since I'll usually need to do several clips before editing. Anyone who is still on Auto is stuck with the latter until or unless they change modes.

Okay, good point.Ive always let the preview window open after a recording.

Then I can chose if I want to save and edit, which opens the editor and places the file in the media bin.Or it just places it in the bin if the editors already running.

Or I can chose Save, and just save it.

You get so used to doing things in a certain way,you can't remember what defaults settings are and what nefarious things those settings can do to you.

Apologies for the the late reply and to say thanks for the tip, been away a few days. Your tip works fine and I agree with your logic too.

In fact over the years I have always worked that way, but of all the settings I tried with Camtasia 9 to get the record window to come back to the top after a take, I missed the one you have suggested, so thanks for that.
