Hm. I was just able to it successfully (just did a quick test). Can you use video on other things, and when do you get the error message? This may even be a better question for our support team at http://support.techsmith.com!

Jess, Thanks for your quick response. I tried it with Skype and got this same error message: "Failed to initialized video recorder process." Can this message be forwarded to support?

Thanks again,

Rick Morgan

I'm afraid you'll need to fill out the form, because it requires information I don't have available here. Like how to contact you, etc. This is more for product feedback, what you'd like to see, how we can better help you be successful, etc. so we don't gather all of that data. I promise, it's a painless process, and our tech support guys are some of the best in the game! http://techsmith.custhelp.com/app/uti...

I tried recording a Google hangout with Snagit, and the video worked fine, but not the audio. I'm using Windows 7.

Any suggestions on how to make the audio work?

Snagit records just your mic audio.
To record system audio & your mic at the same time you will need to use Camtasia.
If you do not have Camtasia, try the free trial on the TechSmith website.

I'm using Camtasia and Windows 7 but I'm barely hearing the audio from the others in the hangout. I'm hearing my own voice fine, Any suggestions?

How are you recording the audio? Are you capturing system audio or using your speakers? You'd be surprised, I've heard lots of different answers here. :)

They are all at 100%. I haven't changed them anytime recently, so I'm sure they were that way this morning.

Interesting. I am able to do this, on both a Mac and a PC. I don't seem to have the same audio issues. I think I need to recommend you contact our support folks, so they can dig deeper into your settings with you. I can't recreate it on my end! :(

I am happy it's working now! But confused and wish we had something to point to! I am sorry that the happiness is a little unfulfilling :)

I'm having the same issues when recording Google+ Hangouts. I've recorded 5 or 6 GoToMeeting sessions without any issues, but recording Google+ Hangouts records the system audio at a very low volume. To test, it doesn't seem I've even needed others to join a hangout, as starting a hangout and going to settings and clicking the 'Play Test Sound' in the audio settings plays a phone call sound loud and clear through my headset, but recording via the Camtasia recorder records it at a severely reduced volume. Again, haven't seen any issues with GoToMeeting recordings, so it seems to be something weird with hangouts.
