Record screen while playing audio track

I think it can be very useful to be able to add extra tracks by recording the screen (either with or without adding a microphone recording) while playing at least the audio part of other tracks already in the project. That way, I can ensure that my actions on the recorded screen, and my words in the microphone, are perfectly synchronized with the previously recorded tracks.

It is of course possible to play back the audio through a seperate program, but I would then still have to shift the new recording on the timeline to get the timing right. It would be a lot easier if Camtasia does that for me.

Hi Hugo,

Thanks for your input! One thing you could try is to go into Camtasia while you're making a recording, and play-back the preview window, then minimize and continue with your recording while the preview plays (it should play any audio you have on the timeline).

Let me know if this works for you!

Regards,

Aaron

I record my voice-over tracks first, then record a screencast to the VO. I would find it very helpful to be able to play my audio track in Camtasia wile I am recording the screencast. Right now, I have to play back the VO in a separate audio program, which is kind of clumsy.

Has any progress been made on david.veeneman's comment? If not I would like to see this functionality too.

As far as I know Colby this feature/option is still not available in Camtasia Studio 8 for the PC and it is still the way David stated. You would have to use an external audio player to accomplish this option for your video. It would be nice to see this moved to a feature request and I hope this answered the question. Thanks for posting and have a great day/night.

And, having recently migrated to the Mac, it would be a nice feature for the OS X version as well. Can you add it to the 'user wish list', or is there somewhere else on the site where the feature should be requested?

David I cannot add it to a wishlist as I am just a user like the others here and do not work for TechSmith. Hopefully they will update this to a feature request for you. They should have a button for doing that for the users in this forum.

I know if you click the Plus One Button which is the Like Button at the top right of the page then this shows how many people would Like to see this option. So if more people Like it then it might get more attention but never know that is debatable. I have Liked it myself. Have a great day/night.

Given the recommended way of building screencasts in the Camtasia Getting Started Guide this seems like a very necessary feature.
