When I double-click on video, it's showing up in Camtasia as a white box instead of the first screen of the video, and won't play or drag in the timeline.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems. It sounds like something on your system is interfering with basic decoding of video.

It's going to take some one-on-one troubleshooting to get to the root of the problem and fix it. The best way for us to help you is for you to open a ticket with our TechSupport staff at http://support.techsmith.com. Someone will follow up with you by email to help troubleshoot the problem. It will help if you can attach a sample video that's not working on your system when you open the support ticket.

Hi, this sounds similar to what I've just raised under a different topic ("[Win 7 HP 64bit] Needs Camtasia Studio 7.1.1 to run with administrative rights?"). Since you did not mention on what system (i.e., windows, mac, version) you are ... under Windows 7 I had a similar problem when I run Camtasia on an account without administrative rights. If you are on Windows and are using a non-administrative account, you might want to try runing the program as Administrator (i.e., right-click "Run as Administrator").

Regards

Peter

Hello,

Camtasia Studio 8 has just been released and addresses many of the issues we’ve had before with videos not decoding properly (and has tons of new features as well!). Please give it a try and let us know if it fixes the problems you have been having.

The 30-day trial is fully functional and can be installed alongside existing versions of Camtasia Studio. You can learn more about the new version here:

I am having this same problem, but I can't afford the upgrade. Should I switch to Adobe Presenter?
