Recording specific application?

Hi! I use camtasia a lot to record my art making process and I spend literally hours editing the video once finished cutting every time I minimize the art application window to check something on google, etc, and I was wondering if there was a way to record video from a single application instead of the actual screen so that way if I pull up youtube for a second it wont show up in the finished recording, saving me lots of time. Please please please help, this issue is driving me crazy.

Camtasia records what is on the screen at all times. The only way around it is to pause the recorder at those times.
You could also stop the recording and save it. That makes the file size of the recording more manageable by breaking long recordings up.
If you have access to a second monitor you could open the painting application on one monitor and record that screen. However, you would still need to cut out the parts where nothing is happening because you are surfing the web.

I don't know if it would work, but what about using lock to application.
