I am trying to transfer original VHS recordings of lectures into mp4 files using Camtasia.  I have a Dell Precision 7710 laptop running Windows 10.  Have tried both USB and HDMI connections but cannot seem to get an input.  Please advise how to proceed next.

Camtasia is a screen capture software. Not a conversion software.

You need a capture card or capture device to convert the VHS to Digital to input to your computer.

I have been thinking of doing this also,  just haven't had the time.

One option I have been looking at is this device on Amazon.
VHS to DVD Video Capture Device

The reviews look good but I can not validate if or how well it works but for the price I'll be giving it a go.

:)

I have about four of these in my possession. Not the same brand, but different brands. I used them to suck in a live video signal and send it to a projector. I used a free program named Screen Monkey to accomplish that task. Seems to work well for that.

I'm not sure about the software that ships with these devices to accomplish the task of copying from perhaps a VCR and burning to a DVD. (I believe that's perhaps the primary function?) So that bit could be problematic.

Dubie, if you haven't yet purchased one of these, contact me privately at rickstone1975 (at) gmail (dot) com and let's have a chat.

Cheers... Rick :)
