Recording games in full screen

I have recently been recording games using Camtasia and recording the games which are windowed works brilliantly, because i can simply maximize the window it is more or less full screen meaning it makes for good viewing. however when i record a game which runs in full screen (and the games wont run in windowed mode), Camtasia will show the game running on the top left of the screen in a small-ish window near the top left of the screen while showing the desktop in the parts of the screen not covered by the game window. Is there a way to set it so Camtasia will actually record the game in full screen and not just a small window? Apologies if i'm being a bit vague, i can provide more details if you like.

Hi Craig,

Do you have multiple monitors at all? It might be the case that you're recording at a region that is larger than the monitor the game is running full-screen on. I could see this possibly happening if you had already set up Camtasia to record full-screen at one point and then changed your monitor resolution.

You could try Custom > Select area to record... and hover over the full screen game window. Before you click, make sure that the glowing selection rectangle (and resolution displayed in the bottom right corner) matches the boundaries of your monitor.

Hi Cameron,

I think I'm having a similar problem... It's not allowing me to even get the full screen, It just records a certain area of my screen. About 1/4 of it. Could it be because I'm using a 60' with my computer? Or is it just a weird setting? Because I have it in Full Screen mode, but it won't record the rest of the screen :(

There were some other threads dealing with this issue as well
The first wasn't really resolved, it's here
and, in the second, the full screen games question was merged into a thread that didn't seem to have much in common with it, beyond recording games, look for the discussion of the full screen recording further down the thread
I don't have an answer, maybe someone from Techsmith could touch on it again.
Maybe file a question to support...they're pretty good and reply within 24 hours
Good luck with your issue

When I try to record a game such as Bloody Trapland where the game takes over my screen, why does no program like camtasia or microsoft expression record it? it records my screen but does not show the game being opened. Do i need to change settings?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
How can i record full games with a recording system?.
