Hi, I'm new to Camtasia but would like to know whether it is possible to record in .avi format or whether it's necessary to convert to .avi following a recording in .mp4 for example.

Thanks in advance!

Paul,
If you want to record using the  .avi format you can.

You can just set the recorder to record in .avi

That's an unusually error,
You could try reinstalling Camtasia. However, contacting Tech support might be a better option for you.

Thats good Rick ..And thanks Joe for quick answer .I think comment of roevason needs to be removed cause it makes us feel that camtasia doesnt provide avi feature which actually it does..Roevason seems to be marketing some of his own product.for some affiliate comisson.my issue was sorted after making the video

Re-reading this thread three years later, my answer wasn't the greatest for this one. For some reason I was only thinking about producing and not recording when I responded...definitely my fault and my answer is misleading.

As Joe mentioned we do support recording to AVI.

After switching to the trec format in Camtaisa Studio 8.4 you did lose the ability to extract an AVI from an existing recording, but that functionality was restored in 8.6.

I agree with Paul Johny on the other post in this thread. I'm going to remove it and my own, original post. Hopefully that will help anyone else who finds this page get a useful answer :)

Thanks to Joe for saving the day here!

Sorry for any confusion,
Glenn

If you are trying to record a video game in full screen mode that can happen because Camtasia cannot capture full screen video games.

Aside from that I don't even have a good suggestion for you try other than try recording something else and see what happens. Also try recording a area of the screen that is smaller than your monitor.

If you are still encountering problems I would contact tech support.

If it were me I would try running a repair install first. It only takes a few minuets and will not effect your personal settings or files.

Start by opening the control panel and opening "Uninstall a program"Then,
See GIF Below, Click to Enlarge.

If that doesn't work I would contact tech support.

I found this thread and would like to see if my problem can be resolved.

I'm still using Camtasia 8 and recently trying to record screen in an .avi file.  I tried many many times.  Each time, everything looked fine; I could capture the screen for 22 minutes, merging was successful, preview was perfect, ... Then when I save and edit, it always finished at 2:14, no more and no less.

I wonder if I have done anything wrong or if there are settings that I missed out.

Thanks for your help in advance!
