Remove Certain Color with Snagit Editor 12

Is there a way to select and remove the same color in Snagit 12 without having to capture each part individually? Gimp has a same color selection tool wanting to see if Snagit 12 has the same thing. I made a video of what I'm talking about.

Hi there

To my knowledge SnagIt has no feature like that. The only option I'm aware of for this would be to choose Transparent as the color for the canvas, then choose to flood fill with transparent using the Paint Bucket tool. You would then flood fill the areas you want deleted.

Perhaps someone else can offer a better workaround.

Cheers... Rick :)

One thing I notice is that SnagIt offers a special dialog that allows swapping one color with another.

You click Image > Color Effects > Color Substitution

This should present a small dialog that allows you to choose one color and replace it with another.

This dialog would seem to be the perfect place to include this. The problem is that it doesn't appear to allow choosing Transparency.

Cheers... Rick :)

That is a big help, transparency would be a huge bonus, maybe they'll include that on the next update. Doesn't seem like it would be much harder than it is now.

maybe if they added an alpha channel or a text box where we can type the word transparent. I saw this interesting read.

There is a way @johnzenaida.

This is a Video for "You and Anybody else that's interested in doing this" and "TechSmith" as well. There is a couple of quirks I've discovered in SnagIt 12.2.2 when utilizing this technique.

If you see this video "TechSmith" please acknowledge that you have observed the quirks and your response  This will save me the trouble of posting a separate thread on the matter, Thanks.

Regards, Joe

Nice job!

Unfortunately, it won't help me as I abandoned the GIF format long ago and almost exclusively work in PNG format. ;)

GIF has about 255 colors while PNG has millions. ;)

Cheers... Rick :)

Thanks for the reply @Joe Morgan

Wonder why that doesn't show up under png? Anyway I reopened it and again saved it as a png but the only negative is the loss of color resolution. For what I am using it for doesn't matter. We need techsmith to offer the same thing when saving as png.

@Rick Stone
Thanks for your help also.

You can very easily select a color and make it transparent in snagit using fill tool. Look at this:http://blogs.techsmith.com/tips-how-t...
