Remove unused parts of a media file from a project at the end of the production phase

It would be great that when I have made my final edit in a project, using some large media files, I would be able to use a feature that would STRIP all not used parts of all present media files and save only the media parts in the project file that are used in the timeline.   This would enable me to have all footage used inside a nice project file, and still enable changes to annotations, captions, add audio afterwards.   Of course the not used media would be lost, but that is a decision you take at the end of your project when you use this feature.

Now it seems that I should pre-edit my media files (large recordings from livestream meetings) and cut them first to use them in project files.  With this feature I just would use the big file, take the parts I need, and remove the rest when I save the project at the end.

Agree. In fact, I have a series of videos that use many of the same elements and, so, I start off each new one with an older one. It would be nice if when I started, it only contained media elements that were in that project. Right now, I need to delete each media element and see if it prompts me that it is being used, in which case I cancel and go on to the next one until I hit one that just deletes. Camtasia obviously, therefore, knows which media elements are being used and which are not. Why not have a menu item — e.g., 'Remove Unused Media' — we can use at any time. And, perhaps, make it a window prompt that pops up when you close a project (maybe in Prefs include an option to turn that prompt on/off).

Good suggestion, Kristof.

Thanks LuckyLindy,  there is already a "remove unused media" in camtasia3 which I love (clean up off all those recordings you do not use), but in this case it is "remove unused parts of used media" I guess.

I never saw that option...it is a right-click option I now see in the Media Bin. Your suggestion sounds useful, if I understand it correctly. For example, in my video series project, I only use portions of some of the video clips; so you'd like only the portions used to be saved with the project, I assume to save space/reduce project size?
