i simply want to rename a clip because the default names can't be recognize well.
How to do this ? Normally i would expect a right click on a clip offers a menu entry where you can do this.
I do not talk about the timelime. Just want to provide useful names for my clip in the clip overview as well for filename of this clip. Thank you

You can adjust the settings in the Recorder so that you can add a file name after you have captured your screen.

Open the Recorder:

Go to: Tools>Options>General>File Options-select Ask for file name

When you stop recording you will see a pop up window asking for a file name.

To change the name of the clip afterwards, you can rename the .trec from File Explorer. If it is has already been added to the project, you will need to right click and update media.

Hope this helps.

Hello Jayne,
thank you for reply. Well, sometime you just don't know what name for the clip is the best. I mean is it so difficult to allow naming in the overview ? Could you pick this as possible feature ? Thank you

Sorry, but i think when you have many clips it is simply confusing. You have those non intuitive names,
you can't reorder them , you can't rename them. That makes no sense. Can you please make the clips renameable and reorderable in the overview ?
Thank you

This feature has been discussed 2 years before already (the thread was closed without any solution):
If you look at the screenshot provided there you can see why this feature would be very helpful in terms of improving the workflow and increasing productivity!
I've been working with some other video/audio producing/editing software and renaming clips or even structuring by giving colours is a common and basic feature.
I would love to hear from Techsmith if they are preparing or considering this feature for a future version?

+1 to this feature. need renaming of clips. seems like a pretty big gap. a bunch of clips with the same name is pretty difficult to work with.

I agree.  This is ridiculous.  I will say there's a less-than-ideal work around.  If you create a group of clips in the timeline, you CAN rename that.

you can rename source clips as desired; you just have to do so in Explorer, not in Camtasia

after changing the name of a source clip referenced in a Camtasia project, use update media to reassign the renamed  file to that clip, which can be done in the Media Bin, or on the timeline

This already exists in Camtasia Mac. We plan on adding this capability to Camtasia Windows.
