render taking ages

How long is the longest render time anyone has had ?
I am up to 14 hours so far for a 2.5 hour video.
I am used to render being about three times the play time in camtasia 2019 for projects an hour long. Why the sudden weapons grade waste of my time do you think - exactly the same laptop doing exactly the same job.

14 hours is way over the top.  Can you tell us about your computer?
RAM:
HDD and / or SSDs:
CPU:
Video Card:
OS:
Rendering with or without hardware acceleration?

During a render can you open task manager and find what resources are being used to what extent? Disk.
(Task Manager,  Performance tab)

2020.0.3 shipped today; it contains a fix for a problem where projects with a large number of timeline media will use more RAM than they should, as well as several other fixes; I recommend you try it and see if it improves your encoding speed.

Thanks for your help. I really value the response to my problems with render in Camtasia.
There were 2 very similar projects 2.5 - 3  hour video projects. One had half an hour of live action video at the end but mostly power-point and voiceover. That project actually took 22 hours in the end to render.  The other one almost identical was done as an administrator having set the preferences to software only on the advice of Mariel who answered my post. That one took about 7 - 8 hours to render.
The machine is a laptop i3 2.13Ghz Windows 10  64bit 4 Gig Ram no SSD.  Clint, how will I get hold of the version 2020.0.3 please?

Cheers
Mike

at the minimum, you need need more RAM; I believe that Win 10/Camtasia need at least 8 GB

Mike -  An i3 too! Yikes, Tech Smith's 2020.0.3  can't fix your hardware. If you look for a hidden file in your C:\ root directory called "PageFile.sys" and note its size (it's also 4 GB) so your entire "paged system" allows you to complete projects, but at a snails pace. It'll never get better.

Well Michael Vindice

You would have to pay $99 for an upgrade to Camtasia 2020.
As kayakman said you would need more RAM. Heres the spec sheet. https://www.techsmith.com/camtasia-system-requirements.htm

Specs are misleading, a dual core 6th gen processor blows yours away for starters. But at the same time. It isn't worth a plug nickle in general. If you want to record  and edit low resolution videos you can squeak by. Performance won't be on the menu.

So don't kid yourself, the problem you're encountering is that your laptop isn't cut out for video editing.
i3 processors are cut rate/bottom of the barrel CPU's.
You've got a budget laptop.

If you want better performance. You need a performance computer.

If your motherboard will accommodate more RAM, adding more might help with the current bottleneck?

As a comparison barometer.

In general, 2K is the largest resolution video I produce.
I have a strong 6 year old desktop.

I can produce a 1 hour 2k video in less than 1 hour.
Thats what a performance computer can do for you.

Yeah, I addressed their bottom of the barrel performance above.

Thanks again for your help. I bought Camtasia 2019 seeing that my laptop met the system requirements as published. I agree that this is the minimum requirement as I can produce 1 hour program and render in 3 hours which i can deal with. 22 hours  for 2.5 hours program material is however not viable.  So a hardware upgrade is required, fine.
