If you see any spam at feedback.techsmith.com paste a link to it here so we can review and remove.

The software powering this support site has anti-spam mechanisms and TechSmith staff also will delete spam, however we do miss things occasionally. Because there is no report spam functionality within this service, we've successfully used posts like this one where the community can paste links to report spam.

When the length of this thread starts to become unruly a new post like this will be created.

Amen to that.  I've been saying this for months.  I have never found a company user forum before where it has been the responsibility of the users to police the spammers.  It's ... well, there are so many words I could use at this point.  Let's just say it's extracting the urine out of us all.

Why thank you, kind sir.

I was wondering whether the forum's terms of use could do with an update.  Irony alert.

1. TechSmith provides users with a forum where they can support and help each other, and propose features they would like to see in the products.

2. In using this forum you are deemed to accept the following terms and conditions:

2.1 You agree to receive spam, porn, fake posts masquerading as genuine, and generally subject your computer to potentially harmful communications sent under our brand.

2.2 We do not endorse this traffic, except that we do because, of course, it's sent under our brand.  But we don't, or do we?  Frankly, we don't really give a ****

2.3 You accept that we will, periodically, claim that it's not our fault because we use GetSatisfaction to provide the forum so it's their fault.

2.4  You accept that 2.3 is true even though other vendors who use the same platform, protect their users from spam without any problem

2.5 If as a result of opening a spam communication you are offended by what you see, or your computer becomes infected, you accept that in the first case you are a snowflake and need to man-up, and in the second case, that it's your own fault for a) falling for it, b) not having adequate protection on your computer.

2.6 You agree to act as a self-policing force of volunteers who will be eager to do our jobs for us.

2.7  You are a sucker

2.8 If the communication of pornographic content to your computer breaches any laws we will cooperate with the law enforcement agencies in your country and provide them with full details of your connections so they can prosecute you, you snowflake.  For the avoidance of doubt, see 2.2.

I think that about covers it?

Just trying to thwart "I just signed up"persona and sneak in some SPAM as a trusted and established user I'm assuming.
I've come across this more than once recently.

I'll play the song one more time.

All that's needed to stop this is for all new members to have their first post moderated .

Yeah, TechSmith should pay a stipend and give a member like yourself the power to view posts on weekends. "Or Me" or "Several Members" to ensure posts are monitored quickly. The only posts that are removed will actually be Quarantined.

That way TechSmith can view them and see that only SPAM is being deleted. Content can be restored of they think it was removed in error. Everyone's protected.

I've yet to see a level of concern that meets this standard.

OK, this user is posting SPAM faster than I can report it.

For f***s sake Techsmith, this has gone on long enough.

Your responses are pathetic and inadequate.  You have to act and you have to act now.  The solution has been explained to you numerous times.  Your refusal to implement a simple but proper protection for your users shows nothing more than your complete and utter contempt for us.

Perhaps your CEO would like to come on here and explain what is going to be done to fix this problem and why it has been allowed to reach this state?  For my part, unless I hear that action has been taken within 14 days, I am going to contact the relevant regulatory authorities and lodge a formal complaint against TechSmith.  I will also register Techsmith's domains and IP address on the various global email spam blacklists.  This will lead to TechSmith's email being blocked internationally which is, of course, a complete overreaction, but the only course of action available to get TechSmith to sit up and take notice.

Given the inevitable defence of "It's not our fault, it's GetSatisfaction's"  We could also lodge complaints against getsatisfaction and get their IP addresses and domains blacklisted too.  I'm sure Adobe would have no problem with TechSmith being responsible for taking down their customer forum platform

I believe this relevant legislation:

"The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 establishes requirements for those who send commercial email, spells out penalties for spammers and companies whose products are advertised in spam if they violate the law, and gives consumers the right to ask mailers to stop spamming them."

So let's kick things off.

Looks like this user hit us hard with spam. His name is "berita hari ini" and the URL to this post is below:

This needs to be deleted and the user gone.

Well I know I posted on this username before. The name on the forum is "berita hari ini" and they deleted his/her other posts. Not sure if they can ban users or delete their accounts on this GetSatisfaction or not but if they do I guess they can just sign up with another username and email and start doing the same thing and use robots to spam. Hopefully this will change soon.

Anyway here is the link below to the post that should be deleted as it is just spam.

https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/missing_capture_tray_and_folder_display

Please delete and do something about this user. This is not the first time I have reported this user.

Regards,

Fred

No, I can't read the text. (Yeah, OK, I ran it through Google Translate; it's irrelevant technobabble about the aspect ratio of a camera, written in Thai.)

However the hyperlink in the post that says "Slot Game" comes through loud and clear.

Who? Henna Sammy: https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/people/henna_sammy

Where? At the moment, this thread: https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/connect-to-mobile-device-problem-solution

However his/her/its profile indicates a second post having been made in this thread: https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/want-to-see-notes-in-powerpoint-while-recording

That post was flagged by Joe here three weeks ago. While the post in question was removed, the account clearly wasn't and I think that a "one strike and your out" policy is appropriate. It's not like someone is going to post spam by accident and then see the error of their ways. If they're a spammer, they're a spammer.

Or alternatively you could do what my site does; deactivate the account's privileges so that it still seems active, and the spammers go nuts wasting time repeatedly trying to post new spam that never actually appears anywhere, and never generates a warning either, heh, heh, heh... (Of course Get Dissatisfaction is probably too lame to provide that as an option.)
