I have used snagit for a couple years now and love it. I remember, distinctly, the ability to press print screen and I was able to draw a square around anything on my screen and before it went to the editor I could fine tune the sizing I just selected and I had to press a button to confirm exactly what I wanted to capture.

I noticed, recently that this is gone. is this a setting somewhere that I changed or was changed in an update? I greatly miss this feature and want it back.

Thank you very much for your time,

Thomas

If you have begun the process of selecting an area where you are seeing the crosshairs, you should be able to press the Esc key if you have clicked and begun to drag. That should return to the basic crosshairs before the selection began.

Maybe this is what you are remembering?

Cheers... Rick :)

The All in One capture will let you resize the capture area.

You can hit the Giant Red Button in one Click. Or the hot key assigned to it.It's usually Print Screen by default.

Or create a custom profile.

Or use the Manage Presets Menu.

The All In One Capture, captures video or images. You will get the crosshairs first, you select an area.
You will see a window like shown below. Drag the handles to resize the selected area.
Then select the camera icon to save a image.

Regards,Joe

This is exactly what i was thinking of. That toolbar at the bottom of the selection rectangle was present by default for me at least. I could resize my selection then had to hit the camera button to take the screenshot.

So I figured out how to create a preset to use the all-in-one but when I try to assign print screen to that it says that hotkey is already assigned so i did shift+print screen.

what is so weird is that since I've used snagit all-in-one was the default. I am not understanding why it changed.

I responded to a similar problem a little while ago. See if this helps.
