This is weird. I try to start this and wind up with nothing... have to reply to myself. You need to make this process more intuitive (maybe I'm just a dummy?).

OK, I'm running Camtasia 2018 and Snagit 2019 on a windows 10 home laptop. I'd like to be able to default some actions when editing videos. When I work with these videos, I do 10-15 at a time and always use the same features for the Camtasi projects. When moving to a new project, always have to enter the folder that the video resides in. The same thing when I go to a new project and want to save the project file (it seems to always want to got to a Camtasia folder). When I'm working on a video, I always use the same annotation, the same transition, and the same two audio effects. I even have some problems with Snagit, trying to do the same things to multiple photos.

Apparently (or so I'm told) there's no way to default or macro any actions. This seems to be an awful design shortcoming. You really need to come up with some way to allow repetitive activity. Browsing around, it looks like there have been a LOT of people calling for the same type of activity. You really need to address this issue.

Camtasia cannot create macros and does not let you tailor the timeline buttons.  These features are available in some other video editing programs -- but those programs are typically more complicated to use.  It's kind of a trade-off.
Frankly, if Camtasia added those features and restored the MP3 output capability, I would have upgraded from v8.6 by now.  I've stayed with Camtasia since around version 2 (back when you could dissolve/fade only from a still frame!) and it is only recently that I've felt any disappointment with the program.

have you tried creating example objects, set up the way you want, then save them in Library; then put that object on timeline and use copy properties/paste properties and copy effects/paste effects to transfer the descriptive info to objects in your project

Thanks for the video. Tried to follow it this morning and ran into a problem right away. Imported an audio/video MP4 file and started to follow your instructions. Got to 36 seconds, with the cursor effects panel up. Having set the scale to max, I right-clicked on the "Left Click Rings" and the  "Add to Selected Media" is not enabled (greyed out). So... what's wrong here? (sorry if I'm clueless).
