Am new to Screencast.
Vainly searched for this idea, however, I assume this has been asked before numerous times.
What about drag and drop into Screencast?
Right now uploading is still in the conventional way: browse, click-click-click to the right folder and pick the right file.
Nowadays, same as imgur or ImageShack drag & drop is considered to be more convenient.

I am not sure ... for good order's sake, so we are on the same page, I meant the following:
Windows Explorer, select a file in some folder on my HDD, drag that into the Screencast window. In my case, whilst trying this with a mp4, the video starts playing.

I see, in that case I am not so sure. I know that Screencast does have it's quirks. I actually haven't worked with it in a while. You say that the file starts playing? Does it also place the file in Screencast? Is that your desired objective?

Mike,
I cannot drag and drop files for uploading with Screencast either.

If I drag a file into my library  the video will open a new browser window and start playing.

If I select the upload button and then attempt to  drag and drop a file into the up-loader window the cursor becomes a circle with a slash through it and you cannot drop the file.

Regards,Joe
