Screencast.com videos not playing on Chrome on iPad

This is a problem that is going on for years now.  This causes problems for my customers, and is a support issue for us to advise them to use Safari instead, and it make us look really bad.
I rang your helpdesk just now and they advised that there are NO plans to resolve this.
I am really disappointed and somewhat incredulous that THE most popular browser on the web is still not supported for Screencast users on iPad.
Guys, please put this on your roadmap.  It's becoming a deal-breaker for my customers, so therefore it is becoming a deal breaker for me.

Eamonn,

I'm sorry to hear this is causing so much frustration for you and your viewers.  I took a look at Chrome on iOS again last night and was able to get Screencast.com videos to work if I requested the desktop version of the website.

I'm not sure why Chrome on iOS is working this way, but I'll try and see if there is a quick win we can do to get this working.

We do fully support Chrome for Windows, MacOS and Android devices.

Hi Ben,
Thanks so much for looking into this.  I am aware of the workaround, and that is OK if  the customer lets us know about the issue (although it's a bit of a big ask for them to do this).  But if we don't hear from them, they will just continue to be stuck.  So your investigations are extremely welcome and I look forward to your findings.
Regards,
Eamonn

So that's why I've wasted the past two hours. Thanks so much for this post. I've been evaluating Screencast vs Wistia for posting and viewing. Tough decision. I love being able to embed interactivity right into the video as well as the quiz results. But, my users aren't going to accept any "workarounds (parents and teachers). Please indicate if a fix is on the near horizon. Otherwise, at least for this project, we'll be using Wistia as it plays on everything and sizes perfectly.

Hi Eamonn,

I have found the issue preventing Chrome on iOS from working.  I am hoping to be able to ship out the fix in the next few business days.  I'll make a follow up post here when it is live.

Hi Eamonn,

I just published Smart Player v5.26.0 to Screencast that should work in Chrome on iOS.

Have a good weekend!

Great news, thanks Ben.  I personally did not have this issue on my iPad, so I will check with some users who reported this and I hope they will get back to me. @Bruce, I would love to hear the results of your testing please :-)

I have had one customer come back and say it now works for him, although I think he had other issues too.   Couple of other customers now having issues, am investigating, hope it hasn't regressed.....
@Bruce, any news from your side please?

HI all, (and thanks Eamonn),

I just posted two videos. The first is from Wistia and the second is from ScreenCast. I am happy to say that BOTH WORK.

Here is the link. I will take it down after a couple of days since it's for testing purpose only, not meant as a long-term web site.

https://techsmith-test.mobirisesite.com/

Try both versions of the identical video and see how each platform handles it. Wistia uses a simple link using oEmbed although it can also use iFrame as ScreenCast does.

But the main point is that ScreenCast finally runs on Chrome for the iPad. Hurray!

Thanks Bruce, I had another student today confirming that this now works for them where it did not work before.
Well done Ben and thanks again!

You're most welcome for the confirmation. Ben is the hero, however. Next task, automatic resizing on any device. Along those lines, I'll be posting a comparison of Wistia and Screencast. I use both and they each have their strengths. Will make it a new topic since it doesn't really relate to this thread.  Probably about a week from now.
