Hi guys. I work in K-12 and am looking to the near future of students have 13 years of portfolios (pictures & videos) (hopefully current) and teachers "flipping the classroom". I am not sure how much picture/video storage space we need, but I am pretty sure 2 GB is not enough. And $99 a year is too much for teachers & students. How about $25??? or a DIY of $1 per GB that you want need??

Hello Paul,

I'd like to flip this to an "idea" so this request will be tracked by the product team and can be voted up by others.

It's true that unlike Snagit and Camtasia, Screencast.com does not currently have educator pricing. This is worth exploring and one can imagine a number of ways that we could approach this.

What do you think about the reoccurring aspect? In your school is it hard to have to pony up every year? For example, is $1/year more complicated and unlikely to get a green light than $15 one time?

Thanks for posting!

Hello Paul,

As far as I know Screencast.com is only $9.95 per year with only 2GB of storage unless you were quoted more for more storage space which I am not aware that TechSmith even offers that. Where did you get the $99 a year from and for what service(s)?

2GB for 13 years of portfolios is probably not enough space but, one could consider other hosting options if the portfolio(s) are going to be online. If not online then you could make video DVD's but that could get costly and time consuming and the DVD's take up some space shelf. Let us know.

Fred, I was looking at screencast Pro, 25 GB for $99 a year.

Mike, thanks for redirecting this. My first thought on yearly vs. one time fee would be the price level might make people lean one way. $10 a year for 25 GB for 13 years vs $130 one time fee, I think people would go with the yearly. Example 2 would be $1 a year for 13 years or a $15 one time fee, people would definitely lean to the $15.

True there are some people who have issues with reoccurring fees. Most of us have come to accept them for services/memberships. Me as an example have yearly memberships in NSTA & NCTM & ISTE, but I paid a one time fee in my first profession for lifetime membership in American Nuclear Society.

I guess we (TechSmith actually) would have to pick some price points and lengths of service and have a discussion with some of us education users. Techsmith needs to not lose money providing us with a hosting service, and I do not know how much that cost is.
