Would like magnifier version as in 9 and/or the prior selection behavior. (Selecting a region... Magnifier Information...)

1. I am using version 10, but I much prefer the magnifier from my previous version, I think it was 8 or 9. Is there a way to get this magnifier back? In my opinion, it was MUCH better.
2. When selecting a region and I click and drag, I can see the size of the box I am going to copy, but how can I see the pixel location where I start the drag and where the box ends. I had this information on previous version magnifier.
Thanks.

Hello,
No, there is no way to use the old magnifier with the new version.
I'm sorry.

Hi, I have been a snagit user for quite some time but have stayed with version 9 (even though I purchased version 10). I had a quick look at version 11 and liked the spell checker component.

I was wondering if somewhere along the way the snagit developers could include an option to use the old style capture magnifier and cross hairs. I simply do not like the new style where the whole screen goes dark, nor the cross hairs in the newer versions.

An option to choose the old or the new would be great.

Capture Magnifier & Crosshairs.

Hello Don,

I think I'd like to turn this into a feature request (idea). We'd be interested in any details you might have about why you appreciated the bigger cross hair magnifier instead of fixing the capture in the editor.

Thanks so much for posting,
Mike Curtis

Hi Mike, It is all about speed and ease of use for me. I found that the pre v10 capture view was less intrusive (no darkened screen) and the larger magnifier cross hairs were more accurately placed. I write technical books and I snag at least 1500 screen captures per book, so having to bring each one into the editor to crop or fix is not practical. If an option was offered to use the new or the old, all your SnagIt users would be happy. Having options is always a good thing, in my opinion. Thanks for your openness and the possibility of having this become an option.

Can someone please comment on my point #2 in the original question... I am not sure if I have missed a setting or something...

I am using both version 9.1 (at work) and 10 (at home)

In version 10... When selecting a region and I click and drag, I can see the size of the box I am going to copy, but how can I see the pixel location where I start the drag and where the box ends. I had this information on previous version magnifier.

In version 9, when I initiate a capture, but BEFORE I press on the left mouse button, I can move the cursor around the screen and a box entitled "Taking Your Capture" shows me the exact X & Y coordinates of my cursor, so I can be sure to start the capture exactly where I want to.

This doesn't seem to be available in version 10... for MANY captures, I find it very necessary to have this information.

Thanks.

I just upgrade to Snag-It V12. I see that they have still not given an option to have the old version magnifier and screen capture process. . I simply do not like the how the whole screen goes dark, nor the cross hairs in the newer versions. I guess that will never be an option. Pity.

I saw your video Don . It's easy to see what you actually want.  I think you will like this option. Same for you if you are still out there IntrinsicCSS. Or anyone else for that matter.

You can have multiple versions of SnagIt on one computer.
So you can Reinstall version 9 again if you have uninstalled it.

You can capture the screen using SnagIt 9. You can then find the SnagIt 9 capture in the SnagIt 12 Library.
Both versions use the SNAG_ Program  format. They also share the Datastore.

You cannot run SnagIt 9 and 12 at the same time. You need to close one to open the other.

See Image Below, Click To Enlarge.

You can download and install a new or an older version from this link.

Selecting the "Free Trial" Icon will download the newest version.

Hi Joe,  I am not sure how this helps since it means going back to V9. I save all my captures to jpg format to a clip repository that is connected to my MS Word Insert Image tool, so I never use the Snag-It Library or the Snag-It image format.

I worry  that one day Snag-It V9 will be outdated, hence my desire to keep updated and have the options I desire in the latest version.

Your post did make me think though, that I can run V9 to do my captures and if I need to edit images (I sometimes do - to add special text or arrows, etc.) I can right mouse click on an image an open it with the V12 editor that has some of the new tools, like spell-checker.

Thanks for your input.
