Set defaults for fonts, colors, callouts, transitions, etc

Hello folks,

Camtasia 2018 addressed this request, in part, with the new Theme capabilities. We are continuing to expand Themes in the next version of Camtasia. As such I'm marking this as implemented.

This request was packed with related concepts. I'd describe most of the rest as requests for Favorites, or customizable presets. This is something that's under consideration for the future. If this is something you are keen to see in the product, please open up a new request and vote to support it.

Best,

Brooks Andrus

YES!!!
This would be a huge help, and would reduce clutter in the library.

After thinking about this one I personally just copy and paste the callout that I want to duplicate and then change the text inside of that type of callout.
This kind of skips the default issue but I still think that it would be a huge help in production speed up.

Hmmm, this seems like a very good idea.  I don't understand why Camtasia doesn't have this.

This would be a HUGE time-saver!  I rarely use the system default colors for callouts, etc.

YES! YES! YES!

I use about 4 types of callouts. That's it. And I add a common transition to all of them. This takes five or six clicks and drags for each callout. I would like to be able to create a hot key or quick-access button (like I use in Excel and Word).

It would save so much time to be able to set a default that is different from what the software has decided! Example:  I'm constantly having to remove the default "shadow" on type.

That dropshadow is another default that I always get rid of.
Especially when it's against a black background it looks like a smudge more than a shadow.

This would be extremely helpful. As it is, I create library items to use between projects, as well as have to copy and paste within projects.

Being able to set default fonts, colors or properties, or even keeping the most recently used properties,  would be very helpful!

We were a little surprised by the popularity of this idea. It’s clear that this will help both with a consistent look across projects as well as a time saver. In addition to what the community has shared here, our research outside of the Community has similar themes of making it easier to maintain a consistent look or brand. We’ll be picking up this work in a future development cycle. Too early to predict exactly when but stay tuned for updates.

Here are the definitions of what the statuses mean for Ideas.

Here is the overall vote count for the rest of the Ideas in this round up.

I'd like to control my default settings for 'Cursor Effects', 'Left Click' and 'Annotations' and 'Keystroke' placement. Currently I have screen captured the property settings I like so that I can apply them to every project. It would save a lot of time if I didn't have to do this. I'm looking forward to this update for Mac. Is it far away?

I'm disappointed that people wanting this functionality is a shocker to camtasia. Where is the solution?

Check out the Camtasia 2018 update. It  does have some options for default fonts and colors.

Thanks for pointing that out Drew! We did in fact add a new feature called theming to help with making it easier to access some of your commonly used fonts and colors. Since it's a new feature, we'd love to hear any feedback that folks would be willing to share about how they currently or hope to use it.

Cheers,

Kelly

Because this thread is mainly about speculation of what this feature may look like rather than what was delivered in C2018 I've put my take on Kelly's question here.

While I support this idea and have voted for it... we're still not going to get a consistent look while Camtasia only allows us to set the ridiculously meaningless "scale percentage" for annotations rather than "x pixels by y pixels", and while the text plays stretchy-shrinky rather than being a fixed size that the USER specifies.
