Sharing a picture in Apple Messages

I'm using Snagit Version 2018.2.3 on my iMac and when I capture an image the format of that image is "snagproj". I'd like to be able to "Share" a captured image in Messages but dragging the snagprog image from Finder doesn't give a viewable image. How can I change the default file format to PNG or JPG or otherwise be able to do what I want.

Hi Martin,

I do this all the time myself. I think the easiest way to share from the Snagit editor to Messages is to click the "Copy All" button in the upper-right and then cmd + v to paste that image into messages.

You can also drag an image from the tray in the Snagit it editor into Messages. You can also drag from the try into finder or your desktop if you want a quick way to make a png.

I'm guessing that the awesome click and drag from the Recents tray and dropping doesn't work on Macs?

It's my absolute favorite way of working with SnagIt since discovering this was possible. Saves me so many steps!

I was updating my answer as you posted this. I like using the copy all button better, but the drag from tray works too. I think I like copy all because click and drag is difficult when you have to go a long distance on my 27" iMac I have at home :)

"I'm guessing that the awesome click and drag from the Recents tray and dropping doesn't work on Macs?" That's correct and I assume it]s because Messages doesn't understand the file type. Do eathier of you know how to change the default file type for the "File" type share?

"but the drag from tray" Drag from what tray?

"click and drag is difficult when you have to go a long distance on my 27" iMac" I also have a 27". If you go to Preferences->Mouse and set Tracking Speed all the way to the right it's not a problem.

That's Glenn, I missed your post and that does work, but what about my question about changing the file type?

You can change the filetype when you drag out of Snagit in the Preferences > Advanced > Drag & Paste Format

Understood, but I was looking for a way to change the default file type when I "Share" an image.

Hi Martin,

You can also click the share button in Snagit and choose Messages to share directly. It should share with the file format you select in Preferences as Glenn showed.
