Are you all running the exact same version of Camtasia? Which versions are currently being used?

There is a particular way you need to share your project files. This is via the Export and Import process.
You will find the details toward the bottom of this article on collaborating with Camtasia projects:

Also, as Robert mentioned, both of you need to be running the same version of Camtasia OR versions of Camtasia that accept cross platform projects.
Let us know if you have done this and you still cannot share projects.

Hi Kelly,
I was indeed not aware about the Export to ZIP function from within Camtasia, however when my colleague tries to open via Import Zipped project, she still gets the same error message.
We're both on Camtasia 9.
The project was originally created in Camtasia 8, but I was 'upgraded' to Camtasia 9 a few months ago when we installed Camtasia 9. Can that be the reason ?
Any other tips?

you want to share a project; so you load and export that project using the export to zip function on the CS9 file menu?
you give your colleague the Camtasia-made zip file, she imports into Camtasia 9 [easiest way is to drag/drop the zip into the editor UI; she then gets an error?
if this is what's happening, have you contacted tech support?
could you and colleague make short screencasts, hosted on screencast.com, showing us exactly what you're doing and what is happening?

Hi, that's exactly what we did after the information from Kelly, but still the same error message...
I didn't create a ticket yet as I wanted to verify if anyone else has encountered the same issue in the past.
I'll do now
