I'd try #1 running A/V and anti-malware, #2 do a "clean disk", and #3 run "chkdsk /f" at the C:\ prompt.
MBAM (MalwareBytes Anti Malware) is the best and has a free version that is great.

I use Camtasia v8.6 and experience frequent shutdowns of the program when editing detailed pieces that have many small edits on the timeline.  This has always been an issue and is unrelated to my PC (in fact, no other program shuts down like Camtasia).  To date, no recommended "fix" or workaround has removed this problem, although it is noticeably less frequent if all source files reside in the same folder.  I have a current version of Win10 Pro, no space issues, a fairly fast processor and more than sufficient RAM -- it is just Camtasia.

To be fair, Camtasia 8 is a 32 bit program. It crashes when RAM usage hits around 2.5 to 3.2 GB. Thats the problem with 32 bit programs and it unavoidable. As edits pile up, so does RAM usage.
I used to save my project every time Camtasia 8 got sluggish. Close it and relaunch it clear out RAM. That was sufficient to avoid crashes.
You can keep task manager open and monitor RAM usage as well.

edna doesn't mention which version of Camtasia is actually being used.
64 bit Camtasia shouldn't have memory overload shutdowns. I haven't had crashing problems of any significance since version 9.
