In the new version, there is a slider that regulates the volume gain. So if you want to mute selection on a track, you need to cut that segment from both sides, then select it, and reduce volume gain to 0. Previously, you need just to make selection, and click Silence and you have 4 audio spots and muted selection

Highlight the timeline section you want to silence, then right click and choose "Silence Audio"

Yes. Highlight area on timeline as before and then do a Shift + S and that area is silenced.

Camtasia 8 is so much better than Camtasia 9  for silencing.  You removed the silence button, WHY?????   Using the Shift + s is so much slower.  Right clicking and clicking on Silence Audio is so much slower.  Please put back the silence button......what were the programmers thinking when they took this away.?

It's just a mater of time. Try to use the shortcuts. Shift+S and Ctrl+X works very fast.  You will see
