When rendering things, it's helpful to have ample memory and a fast processor. I noticed a dramatic improvement in video rendering when I took the leap to an Intel i7 processor and 8 gigs of RAM. I really wanted 16 gigs but the laptop didn't support that much RAM. :(

From what you have described, your hardware specs shouldn't be any issue.
Aside from ensuring that the video is on your local hard drive and choosing to render a smaller video and playing with some of the different outputs, I'm going to suggest there likely isn't much you can really do to speed things up. As I understand it, Camtasia is a 32 bit application. As such, it doesn't have the ability to take advantage of things a 64 bit application can.
Hopefully a new version is around the corner and it will support 64 bit as well as be faster. But we won't really know until TechSmith releases a new version. ;)
Note that I don't work for TechSmith, I'm a user same as you. Nor do I have any other sort of "insider" information. It's just logical to conclude that any software company is always working on the next version of whatever it is they produce. ;)
Cheers... Rick :)
We want to thank you for your patience while we worked to improve our rendering performance. We are pleased to announce that we have just released our newest, most powerful version of Camtasia yet. Camtasia is now a 64 bit application and it shows. You will see improved performance, stability, the ability to work with more complex projects than ever before, and Camtasia is able to take advantage of more resources if you have a more powerful machine. Most of these benefits will still only be noticeable on stronger machines (see our system requirements). Video editing and rendering is a very computationally intensive process unfortunately.
You can buy Camtasia here or download the trial here.
