Slam Dunk Idea! Snagit for the iPhone. There's nothing on the market like it.

I know mobile apps are a pain but writing a Snagit-like app for mobile would be freakin awesome. I use snagit daily. I use my phone more and always need to do snagit type of activities to edit and combine pics and screen shots. Picture tells a story, right. I'm sure you guys have kicked this around and it would be cool to know why or why not this could be a candidate. Thx.

I agree so much with this. They are missing a huge opportunity to dominate screen mark up on mobile devices. I have searched endlessly for a good app and there is nothing even close to a snag it type app. It seems they are stuck in this idea that they have to push everything to the desktop. They can’t see that this is not the way the world works now a days.

How would you do all the intricate stuff such as grabbing a region, selecting an area, positioning a call out, defining a cutout etc?

Don't get me wrong, I use screenshots from mobile devices all the time, but I find it very easy to grab a whole screenshot, transfer it using Fuse and then do the heavy lifting on my desktop.

Of course the desktop version would be better but the point is to use the mobile phone. If you are out and about and. Not near a desktop, this is what mobile phones are for! Everything is mobile now. Many people don’t even use a desktop computer anymore.

As for the mechanics of it, I’m not a programmer but it’s entirely possible. Tech Smith is missing a huge opportunity here. They are the leaders in screen mark up and by ignoring the mobile platform almost completely, you are setting yourself up for death. And just for the record, using fuse to transfer back and forth is nice for those occasions where you need the full power of snagit, but the concept of having to use a desktop to do something that could be done on a phone is archaic. Can you think of anything now a days that can’t be accomplished solely on a phone screen? I can. CAD. I use Autodesk Inventor for that and it’s complicated. Marking up screens is not that complicated. Boil down the must haves, and check out the mobile competition (pinpoint), see how uninspired it is and just make an app!!! .

Ps. Apparently someone got the clue before tech smith and came up with an awesome app. Just found it! Tech smith could still do it better I’m sure. Check it out. It’s called annotate + markup image.
