Smart player playback speed setting

If I produce my video with the smart player only to utilize the variable playback speed, what (if any) files do I need to send along with the video mp4 file to ensure the playback speed option appears in the player on a website? Once produced with the smart player does that playback speed setting automatically travel with the mp4 or do I need to provide an additional file from the set of files that get produced with the mp4 when I send it along to an engineering department for use on a website?
(currently using Camtasia 9)

Hi John,

You will need to use all the files to run the Smart Player on your website.  If you just use the MP4 with another video player, those players usually have their own UI to adjust playback speed.

Ok. Thank you. A follow up question: for videos produced as mp4 only is there any way to implement the smart player without having to re-render the file itself? I thought I read that many of the files produced along with an mp4 when produced with the smart player are "generic" for lack of a better term, meaning not specific to the individual file produced. Is it possible to use those files after the fact so that the playback speed function is embedded on a video that was produced as mp4 only?

Yes, it is possible: Just Rename the new mp4 file to replace the original that was created by the "generic" one, and play it with the generic player.
Note: Make sure that the generic production doesn't have a TOC...

The Smart Player is really just a JavaScript and CSS file that gets included along side the produced MP4.  We also include 2 HTML files that are configured in a way the uses those JavaScript and CSS files along with some other JavaScript to setup the Smart Player to pull in that video.  So some of this is "static", but details get filled into some of those files by Camtasia.

The ability to change playback speed is actually built into the browser itself for a video files.  The Smart Player just creates a UI to change the setting.  That is why you can find other players doing the same thing.
