I asked this a couple years ago and got a negative so same question: Is the current version of SnagIt able to do a scrolling capture of the Window 7 start menu and its tree structure including folders, sub-folders, and files.

Hi there

I don't believe that is possible. Not that I've ever seen. I tried using the new feature of version 13 known as "Panoramic Capture" but it didn't work either. At least, not for me.

Cheers... Rick :)

I found it really weird that the program can't capture its own screens and some of windows.

Hi there!

Snagit can indeed capture it's own windows, though you will need to change a setting in the Capture tab of the Snagit Capture Preferences section (see: )

Essentially you would open Snagit (not Snagit Editor) and then click on File - Capture Preferences - Capture and un-check "Hide Snagit when capturing"

Step 1:

Step 2:

As for capturing the Windows 7 Start Menu ... The Snagit scrolling capture method relies on traditional scrollbars, something that the Windows 7 Start Menu does not have. Panoramic Scrolling Capture in Snagit 13 may be able to capture a scrolling start menu in Windows 7, though the small arrow would need to be shown in the bottom of the Start Menu. As for capturing the ´╗┐entire´╗┐ Start Menu and scrolling section plus sub-menus (meaning all items in your Start Menu are "opened" and captured), unfortunately there is no way to do this.

Uhhh, Robert? How exactly did you capture the image shown in Step 2?

For me, capture doesn't work for grabbing that particular window. Windows just beeps at me. Maybe a time delay is used?

Additionally, have you ever tried capturing the menu that appears when SnagIt is in the Notification tray? For me (and I believe I've seen others report this behavior) the cross hairs just freeze when you try to do that.

Cheers... Rick :)
