Snagit 12 is terrible.

Snagit 12 is the worst thing ever. It's $50, I mean $50. Ashampoo Snap 8, a very decent screen capture program, is only $40. But Snagit is worth $10 in my opinion. There are almost no recording options or audio options. Audio is always flat and low quality in Snagit recordings, and Snagit records in 15 FPS and it can't be changed. The video quality is also very bad. The Snagit Editor is lackluster, but you're buying a screen recording program so you can't really complain. The screenshot feature is not worth talking about because it's already integrated into the operating system. There is no way to record without the mouse cursor. If you're looking for a good screen recording program, get an older version of Snagit or choose Ashampoo Snap 8. The fact that this program is #1 in TopTenReviews makes me suspect it even more of just being an advertising platform (I mean, it obviously is). Or just get a free Ashampoo Snap 2015 key from this giveaway:

You literally have to type an email address in, and confirm the email, and the serial key is sent to you immediately. Even use a fake email address.

A lot of other people complained about the lack of customization options:

"Where are the Video Setup / Frame Rate options? I have gone through
tutorials here at TechSmith and searched on the web and in the forums.... I cannot seem to find a way to modify these settings.

I am extremely disappointed in Snagit 11. I quite honestly feel like someone has stolen $50 from me.

Seriously, am I missing something? I just want the ability to select a codec and its settings and set the frame rate."

"We completely overhauled the video capability in Snagit 11. We used to record in the AVI format which led to large file sizes and a hard-to-share video that was not very suitable for non-Windows or the Web. These videos also had a cap of 1GB.

It sounds like the AVI video was well suited for your needs however, and you can certainly obtain a refund here:

With our new MP4 (h.264) video format, there is no frame rate setting because we are using an algorithm that strives for 15 frames per second but will adjust based on performance challenges. The MP4 is much better at capturing motion and the file size is a fraction of what video used to be in prior versions of Snagit."

Strives for 15 frames for second, and also apparently abysmal video and sound quality.

I don't have version 12 but snag it 11 is one of the best written software packages I've ever experienced.
