Maybe I'm just an idiot but I can't get the scrolling capture to work with SnagIt 12 which I just downloaded and installed on SP3 with Windows 8.1 and IE 11.  I have SnagIt 11 on my old laptop and it works just fine.  I used cnn.com as test - scroll capture works with 11, not with 12.

I've tried all the different help, tutorial and troubleshooting suggestions to no avail.  Since scrolling capture is one of the biggest reason I have SnagIt, I'd appreciate advice on figuring this out.  Otherwise, can I trade 12 for 11?

Thanks

Hi, I hope I can help.

First of all, the "good" news is that you can have both Snagit 11 and Snagit 12 on your computer at the same time. Here is where you can download Snagit 11, and you don't have to uninstall version 12: http://www.techsmith.com/download/oldversions.asp

Now, how could it be that 12 isn't working, but 11 can scroll CNN.com? It sounds like you've tried many things, so I am afraid initially I am at a loss, and going to suggest, if you'd be so kind, that you open a ticket with one of our experts at http://support.techsmith.com

Sincerely,
Mike Curtis

Hi Mike,

Thanks for letting me know I can have both versions installed.  While 11 scroll captures CNN.com on my Windows 7 machine, it also does NOT scroll capture on my Windows 8.1 machine.

After further researching, it seems this is a long and well known problem with SnagIt, that scrolling capture does not work for IE with Windows 8.1. It does scroll capture Word documents, as a comparison.

Is this correct?  Is there a work-around?  Is there a solution forth coming?

I also did send a support ticket.

For anyone else reading this, I did run across two work-arounds: there is Awesome Screen Capture as add-on for Firefox, and DuckCapture (which does work in IE) from ducklink.com  While both do capture scrolling windows, have minimal annotating functions, and allow ability to save as image files, neither (that I could see) allows saving as .pdf.

Thanks,
Doris

The scroll works great for me.  I have 8.1, but am using Google Chrome instead of IE.

I just upgraded from SnagIt 9 to 12. I used SnagIt 9 auto window scroll often. SnagIt 12 auto scroll doesn't work. I have Windows 7 Pro and a PC. I've found SnagIt 12's region auto scroll works most of the most of the time. So, after a year, it appears TechSmith hasn't fixed to irritating problem!

I have used Snag-it for YEARS. I am a HUGE advertiser for Snag-it. It's all I talk about. I use it to do my job daily and I ask for it when I am on consulting gigs. So this has been a huge inconvenience for me to have these problems still exist...I keep on buying new releases, nothing gets fixed. At least a year, if not longer for the scrolling problem.

I am having the Snag-it problems both on my work computer (Win 7, Chrome, IE, Firefox all older browsers, but latest version of Snag-it available on the corporate portal) and on my home computer Win 10 (all latest browsers). It has been SO time consuming, copying and pasting screen shots together as a work around, and copying link from one browser into another, it shouldn't work like this.
Any fixes yet? Whats the priority level on this, how long will this fix take and what do you recommend I do in the meantime. I don't have time to keep testing this in a ton of browsers....its obviously a known issue. I called a year ago about it, and I was very surprised I was told there is no fix...and they were OK with that. I will never forget how I was shocked they just had no answer for me. Or it is recommended to roll back to a prior version of Snag-it?

I upgraded from SnagIt 9 to 12 about two months ago. I'm experiencing same auto window scroll non-existent. I've seen post to TechSmith blog dated two years ago about this problem. I've found scrolling region will work to scroll an entire webpage. Frustrating and maddening. TechSmith seems deft to this problem. Not good programming or customer support. .
