SnagIt 13 Crop Tool Crop Area

The Crop Tool in the SnagIt Image Editor - unlike previous versions - lets you select areas outside of the image. If you drag select the selection area and select outside of the image region you get a transparent are that becomes part of the picture.

This is quite useless. The clipping area really should be restricted to the image area or if there is a reason for this (I can't think of any use case where I'd want to extend the clipping area beyond the image) it should certainly not be the default.

Please consider restoring the old behavior or at least provide an option to choose between the annoying new behavior and the old where a selection would be bound by the bounds of the image.

First off when you crop a image you are usually removing some of the image so the area outside of the image should not be a issue.

However what if you need to ADD to that image? Some text for example.

The ability IMO to have the crop tool do this is very useful.

Maybe it's just me though :)

I can see that it may be useful at times. But I agree that the possibility ought to be offered only as an option.

Totally agree. The cropping tool is also behaving erratically when trying to crop away just a few pixels width.
Snagit on whole worked better several years ago before the big UI change. Don't change things just for the sake of change.
