Snagit 13 - fabulous but some v. small changes would make it FABLOUSer - please check to see if it makes sense

I believe this would benefit all Snagit users who use the programme a lot for capturing vidseos etc and don't want to sit like a dummy in front of their dumb computers. Imagine you're streaming a 90 minute video. I can 't always remember and often don't want to be there at the end of the 90 minutes to click the finalise button. And if I am not then the process of a) finalizing b) cutting c ) saving file (mp4) could in total take 3 to 4 hours. Jutc compare that with a function that allows users to set a max recording time or alternatively a pause on the originasl being captured and snagit and see the time difference. It is astonishing. Maybe 15 seconds to finalise recording, 15 secs to cut dead time, and most IMPORTANT of all savinbg the named file 1 minute. All these figures increase by 400 to 500 times if you have a 9 hour video as I often running overnight.

So I ask TechSmith please us very happy Snagit users with respect and introduce su7ch a function, either a fixed recording time or a pause function.
I bet my bottom dollar that none of the developers are aware of this. Because as one of the te ch su7pport people wrote to me, Snagit is not intended for more than approx 90 minutes. That is fair enough, but for me it works for a lot more than that. The problem is hugely exponential increasxe in time needed to save a cxapture that has been reduced to 90 minmutes from recording time of anything about 6 hours.
I would also add add it doesn't make sense to invite people to submit ideas and not make it clear they have to sign in first. Very silly IMHO.

I also record sometimes and can not be there at the end.
I end up with 2-3 hours or more on occasion, then cut the end back and save.
Snagit actually worked better at this than Camtasia 8 Recorder.
I now have Camtasia 9 which I have not tested the Recorder yet for a long recording.
It works Great for the short recording I have done so far.

A Timer setting would be Great for Snagit 13 and Camtasia 9 Recorder.

Thanks for the idea.

the first thing I'd like to mention is that you have a wonderful idea, the second is just coming from me being a weirdo (myself lol) you said:[I would also add add it doesn't make sense to invite people to submit ideas and not make it clear they have to sign in first. Very silly IMHO.], and to that, I feel the need to say:[how in the world are they supposed to give your great idea credit if they don't know who made it? Look, being disabled, I run into more than my share of obstacles, but IMHO, this one DOES make sense to me.. they have no way of knowing that you intended on putting all of your pertinent identifying info in the post with your suggestion.. and look, I realize that my post is not helping you any, but I just really felt the need to speak up, because I think it's both wonderful that a company actually gives us a place to submit ideas, and that you posted such a great one!] So, with all that being said. I'm going to post this message and hope I didn't offend anyone?

I understand no offence intened and none received at all! Believe me please. My only point was that after writing my stuff I then saw I couldn't send it, because I was not logged in, and then problems with passwords for the account etc etcI still prefer to know the whole process as far as possible before starting. I am also partially disabled having had a serious car accident couple of years ago. So I know quite a lot about obstacles and overcoming them.
Anyhow truly lovely graphics. Done in Snagit? Great programme. And also very good we can submit our ideas for possible improvements.

I do believe you, and can certainly relate to the issues mentioned above, you can ask my kids how much I loathe logging in places I even have created an Excel worksheet precisely and only for my site logins, since i have so many issues with it! lol.Anyhow, thank you for the graphics comment. Yes, I do everything except sleep and bathe in Snagit, LOL! not kidding. I love it! Sorry to hear about your accident, my handicap comes from two strokes a few years ago which left me completely paralyzed on my left side and with a traumatic brain injury that significantly affects my memory and clarity. But it's little gems like this program and meeting nice folks like you that keep me going. That and getting back into web design after being out of it for nearly 20 years! :) I have no idea how I lived without this program and stumbled upon it by accident or fate - not sure which yet? but I do tend to ramble on.

Thanks Mary for the generous, good and sharing interaction . Not to mention the impact of your graphics on what is left of my brain.  You have certainly had a challenging time! So God speed in recovering the 20 years in your web design future. I recently upgraded to latest Snagit.  But found to my disappointment that outputs could not be installed on my system and posted accordingly under "questions" - maybe of importance and interest to you! So far the response to my idea has been a bit disappointing. 1 unvote and 3 unfollow. So perhaps I stop making such contributions as users may not appreciate the direction I am trying to chart.

Ahhh, don't give up! Perhaps the particular users are just as clueless as I am in that particular category? I figure "what doesn't kill us makes us stronger!" it's a cliche - yes, but also very true! Hang in :)

Actually did not understand why people might uncheck. Possibly because they get an email for every c o9mment or like from the site. Puts a different frame on things.  Sometimes amtoo hasty in my assessmentgs.

Comment from rlinternational2  under "Installing outputs".  Whcih should really have come here. You've also  made me think a little bit more. Options to specify finishing time, or no of hours etc. is very good. I hope other users would support this. No downside as I see it only huge TIME_SAVING BENEFITS!!

A refinement I would suggest is the concept of "pause"  as this would provide more flexibility, e.g if both the source "object" and the snagit capture coulöd be paused, and something goes wrong like a pop window intervening, it would then be easier to modify.  And all the time savings benefits of finalising, and saving the file would be gained. What do you and others  think?

Hi and thanks for submitting your idea/feature request!

As outlined in our New Community Processes post, feature requests are open to voting up through the first, where we will then tally the votes and present the findings to our product teams. To ensure we have the most accurate data, on the 1st of the month we will be locking the threads that were listed in the Feature Request Round-up that was posted on the 15th. Once we have reviewed the submitted feature requests, our product team(s) may respond to the request, and if that is the case then that thread will then be unlocked for further discussion.

In the event that your idea is not selected for a response feel free to resubmit the idea and share it with your colleagues to garner as much exposure as possible!

Thank you again for your idea and we look forward to hearing more from you!

Hi there!

We wanted to thank you for the time and effort that you have put into submitting a feature request and we wanted to assure you that your request was reviewed by a member of the Snagit product team. Though this is a fantastic idea, it does not currently fit into the vision that we have for Snagit and thus we will not be researching this feature for development at this time. That said, development goals and functions may change as Snagit evolves and we encourage you to repost your feature request and truly champion its use and purpose by sharing your ideas with your colleagues and professional social circles and urge them to weigh in on the thread.

There could be a number of reasons a feature request is not selected but unless otherwise specifically addressed by myself or another agent from TechSmith, the reason your idea was not selected is likely due to lack of support from our online community so sharing and championing your feature request is crucial to ensuring it bubbles up to the top of the list of requests for the month.

Again, we truly appreciate your time and look forward to your continued support of TechSmith!

-Robert
