Snagit 13 - Highlighter opaques image text

With Snagit 13, the highlighter now causes the text to become opaque regardless of the "Opacity" used. In the previous version, the highlighting was always done in the background behind the text so this was not an issue. Is there an new setting that must be configured for this?

Compare the yellow highlighting in ver 12...

... to the new one in ver 13:

Thanks,

-Gary

Same problem here.

Also, in the image below I applied the same RGB color values to the highlighter in both SnagIt 12 and 13. In SnagIt 13 the color is inaccurate.
The values selected are...... R-240, G-240, B-80.

Photoshop reads the color applied as .......R-219, G-219, B-112 in SnagIt 13. In the White area.
                                                                               .......R-240, G-240, B-80   in SnagIt 12.
Regards,Joe

Yep, on my own PC I get no transparency at all. Adjusting the opacity slider for the highlight simply changes the color.

I encountered it yesterday and have been working with Tech Support. Good to see it's not isolated to me!

Cheers... Rick :)

No, there is no new setting. We are definitely looking into this. I'm bringing it to the team. Thank you for the report!

For now, what you can do is turn down the opacity, to have it not look as muddy. But that's not a long term fix. Agreed.

The transparency behaves the way that you described on my computer to Rick. If I'm going to highlight something I will probably fire up SnagIt 12.

I have found that I can insert a rectangle shape and adjust the opacity on that and I can get pretty close.

Support solved it for me. First they had me update video drivers but nothing happened. Then they had me do this:

Nate (TechSmith Support)

Thanks Rick. Can you give this a try and see if it helps?

1) Close out of Snagit so that it is not running at all
2) Hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and hit the R key to open the Run window.
3) In the Run Window, type the following and then hit Enter: %appdata%\techsmith\
4) Right click on the features.json file and open it in Notepad
5) Change the "Direct2D11" line to false

That totally fixed it for me, but he did go on to say:

if the same problem happens, repeat the steps above. However this time, change Direct2D10 to false as well.

So hopefully this will sort things for others that are experiencing the issue.

Cheers... Rick :)

Yep, that fixed it for me. Thanks Rick,

However, I didn't get the part about......

There is no Direct2D10 entry to change to false. After reopening the file I discovered the Direct2D10 file was created after changing the first one .

All that matters is it works and so now TechSmith can apply the fix in the next update.

OMGosh PLEASE send a permanent, no messing about with Windows keys hotfix to correct the highlight problem. This is a pretty big gaff IMO.
